Kevin Smith on Hacker Duty for "Die Hard 4"?

Last week we learned that Kevin Smith would be playing a small (but inevitably colorful) role in this summer's action-fest "Live Free or Die Hard," and now comes AICN with a little bit of an update -- but before you click on in, ask yourself what kind of character Kevin Smith would be playing in a "Die Hard" movie.

"A hacker/computer wiz with some witty and sarcastic dialogue" is who Mr. Smith will be playing, if this particular AICN scooper is to be believed.

What I find semi-amusing about this new information is this: I predicted it a week ago at Cinematical! I was just guessing! Then again, who else could this guy play in a John McClane adventure? Nothing against Mr. Smith, but I don't think I'd buy him as a grizzled cop or a cowering hostage.

"Live Free or Die Hard" opens on June 29th, and I can't freakin' wait.

Great.....another Die Hard movie....that's just what more money needs to be wasted on. Who really wants to see a 50+ Bruce Willis (trying) run around and save the world from some sort of threat??? I saw the preview and, while the special effects look really cool, the movie looks flat, boring and cheap. Is the movie industry so desperate that it must keep pushing elderly actors into playing roles that they did 20 years ago???? How bout some original ideas or...if you absolutely MUSt make a mindless action film, why not have the balls to start something new with someone who isn't laughably too old for it?

Not even 20 years ago. Anyway, the original Die Hard has a lot of action, but it's also an all-around terrific film. Hell, I watched it in film class in college!!

I am looking forward to this even if it has been awhile. I have always been a die hard Die Hard fan, and ever since seeing the first I have been a HUGE fan of Bruce Willis. And I also agree about the Rocky thing. I mean, they made FIVE of them before revisiting it years later. At least the Die Hard trilogy has some consistancy and substance throughout.

Blah blah blah. Yay I love Bruce Willis and movies are fun.

Clerks II was a nice comeback after a few awful movies.

That said, using computers as a prominent plot device in any contemporary film guarantees that it's going to be very dated a few years down the line. Has anyone watched Hackers recently?

You've just described Woody Allen not Kevin Smith. He's had one maybe two mediocore hits in his career at best. Most of his films are critical and box office disappoinments if not outright stinkers. He's about as relevant as K-Fed.

Though Smith does have a kick ass comic collection.

Kevin Smith and his producer friend are a pair of arrogant, whiney losers in the behind-the-scenes featurette on the Clerks II DVD. They feel the need to defend every movie, decision and action they've ever made, so much that so that they only end up coming across as this chain-smoking fat man who�s lost his touch and a bitter producer who�s rested his laurels on a movie made over ten years ago.

Actually most Kevin Smith movie's make money. That's why he gets to keep making more of them. To a large extent they are nitch movies and will never pull in 300 million like Pirates, but then again they're not supposed to. If you listen to him talk about his career he knows he's never going to be Steven Spielberg or Ang Lee and openly acknowledges his own limitations unlike K-fed(a massively severe low blow by the way and totally undeserved) who is massively self deluded , but he knows what he likes doing and a lot of us enjoy what he does and that my friend is what is called living the American dream.

Rocky Balboa was really good, and Sly's over 60. Harrison Ford is over 60 as well, and Indy's got one last adventure in him. If those two can do it, then give John McClane a chance.

Clerks II wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be. Humour was a little forced, the first one is still superior. IMO that type of humour (donkey, etc) used in Clerks II, would have been much better suited to a Jay & silent Bob sequel.

First off, I didn't buy the DVD at all. My mates and I hired it and none of us specifically disliked Kevin Smith prior to this. However, after watching the behind-the-scenes features etc on the DVD, I can't help but think he's a tool who doesn't know what he's doing and simply got lucky. He's so bitter and puts down those who are critical of his failures. Every second word he says is "f@#k". There are these intros to every section on the DVD too (even the movie itself) where he carries on about absolute shite and it's kinda sad to watch. It's like a train-wreck but you can't help look away.

If you watched the special features I'm referring to you might understand what I'm talking about better. That's why I say hire the DVD just for this reason.
