LOOKING FOR AN ECHO chronicles the way that two old pals living in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, deal with middle age, looking back on their heyday in the 1960s when they were teenage music stars in the popular doo-wop band Vinnie and the Dreamers. Vinnie (Armand Assante), who now goes by Vince, is a well-to-do bartender with a side job playing music at bar mitzvahs with his buddy Vic (Joe Grafisi). While Vince's life revolves around his three kids, the youngest of whom is in the hospital suffering from leukemia, he longs for companionship, having lost his wife years back. After a life-affirming weekend with the Dreamers, Vinnie proposes marriage to his daughter's nurse, Joanne (Diane Venora), with plans for a new start. [More]

Looking for an Echo is full of satisfying moments, yet it’s not an altogether satisfying movie.

The a capella interludes are a thrilling journey down musical memory lane, but do not harmonize with the self-pitying narrative weepie..

The tale of a former doo-wop singer and his friends, is a very appealing mix of pop music, romance, and family drama.

There's a touching sadness to the film, and it reverberates in the splendid, effortless performances.
