The Robinsons are sent on a mission to Alpha Centauri, the only other star system known to be accommodating towards humans. The evil Dr. Smith, however, is intent upon stopping them, and gets caught on board while attempting to sabotage the ship. Steered off-course in a meteor shower due to Smith's extra weight, the family becomes hopelessly lost, and encounter all manner of space inhabitants in their efforts to get back home.
