Consensus: The material is too thin for feature-length and the jokes are socially outdated and clueless.

Much to upstanding citizen and media mogul Ben Feld's (Richard Benjamin) chagrin and surprise, he owns the label, a shock that sends him straight to the hospital. Determined to help out her ailing father, stereotypical Jewish American Princess and Manhattan socialite Marci Feld (Lisa Kudrow) takes matter into her own hands and tries to clean up Dr. S.' act in hopes of fielding an apology from the hardcore rapper. Marci raps about fashion, takes the fast-talking ladies man to charity events where he woos her friends and other high society ladies, and wins over the attendees at his nightclub with interpretive dance. Along the way, this unlikely couple falls in love despite valiant attempts by Dr. S.' girlfriend, Yolanda (Paula Garcés), to keep her man. Wayans' over-the-top wardrobe by itself is enough to garner a chuckle. Star Richard Benjamin (MY FAVORITE YEAR, MERMAIDS) also directed this satirical look at rap, race relationships, and politics, which features original songs by Marc Shaiman (composer for HAIRSPRAY) and Mervyn Warren. Reviews for Marci X
There is more to [Lisa] Kudrow—and "Marci X" proves it—than Phoebe Buffay...An unexpectedly sharp-nailed satire.
Bring lowered expectations to Marci X, and you could discover a mildly diverting comedy.
Watching Damon Wayans and Lisa Kudrow kiss, repeatedly, is simultaneously the grossest and most subversive thing I have seen in a long time.
Marci X proves once again that dumbing down the movie in order to please the lowest common denominator cannot go hand and hand with scathing satire.
The film is close to being an embarrassment, but Kudrow single-handedly almost turns the film around.
The material here is so slight that it is not enough to sustain an entire movie, and the absence of any comic energy whatsoever in Richard Benjamin's direction makes it seem endless even at a less than 90-minute running time.
So clueless about its subject that it's like being force-fed a 10-CD retrospective of Vanilla Ice's greatest hits...will send viewers fleeing up the aisles--faster than Seabiscuit.
Raunchy musical numbers and demeaning stereotypes overwhelm the film's feeble attempts at social satire about censorship and cultural diversity.
once-topical comedy that today feels like something out of the 'day-old' bin. It is not, however, the disaster its much-delayed release might indicate.
