Consensus: Kurt Russell's performance guides this cliche-ridden tale into the realm of inspirational, nostalgic goodness.

From Walt Disney Pictures comes MIRACLE, an inspiring family drama that combines hockey and history in retelling the story of one of sports' all-time greatest upsets. In 1980, amidst the tense political climate of the Cold War, Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) took over as coach of the U.S. Olympic hockey team. With the help of affable assistant coach Craig Patrick (Noah Emmerich), Brooks selected a group of twenty amateur hockey players who faced the daunting task of bringing respectability to their country's floundering program. While Brooks was well aware that his team lacked the talent and experience of the team from Russia, he nonetheless devoted his energy to realizing his lifelong dream: to coach a team to Olympic gold. Stepping into the gaudy wardrobe of the legendary Brooks (who was a consultant on the film and died in an automobile accident just after production wrapped), Russell delivers one of his finest performances to date. Surrounded by a cast of unknown young actors, Russell captures the complexities of a man who dared to dream the impossible dream. Director Gavin O'Connor and screenwriter Eric Guggenheim deftly balance the drama of the game itself with the larger political implications the game inspired, celebrating this truly miraculous moment in time. A complex portrait of a man, and Kurt Russell delivers a major performance as that man.

Miracle no es la primera película sobre un equipo deportivo que consigue la gloria contra todo pronóstico, sin embargo, es una de las pocas en donde la realidad es más emotiva que la ficción.

Kurt Russell is perfect as hockey coach Herb Brooks in a true story that still manages to be rousing and inspirational despite its inherent predictability.

Esquemático em toda a narrativa, é apenas mais um exemplo inferior do gênero "azarão-com-espírito-de-vencedor".

While I don't like the way it simplifies history, I have to admit that Miracle is a hugely effective crowd-pleaser.

[It takes] a wonderful story and transforms it into by-the-numbers entertainment that doesn't show us anything new about hockey or this historic event.

It's not too hokey, not politically correct, not a mass of chewy, Disney-fried steak, not even a miracle -- it's just good storytelling.

You don't have to be a fan of ice hockey to appreciate this old-fashioned underdog tale about America's unexpected defeat over the Russians...

You're glad that Brooks and his team have received the big-screen treatment that their story seems ideal for. But it's sad to see their excellence revisited in such a mediocre movie.

Like all great sports movies, 'Miracle' is less a study of a competitive contest than it is a character analysis. And ho-hum, another great performance by Kurt Russell.

Gavin O'Connor takes a potentially jingoistic movie and makes it into a challenging little politcal statement--hey, you get the *puck* out of Afghanistan!
