"Blandings" Remake Morphs Into "Are We There Yet 2"
by Scott Weinberg | February 09, 2006

Variety reports on one really weird turn of events over at Revolution Studios. Their long-discussed remake of 1948's "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" is being re-shaped into an Ice Cube sequel entitled "Are We Done Yet?" Strange but true, movie fans.

"The Revolution Studios remake of the Cary Grant comedy "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" is getting an extreme makeover: Pic is now the sequel to "Are We There Yet?"

Ice Cube remains the star and Steve Carr the director, but when production begins in Vancouver in June, the comedy will be titled "Are We Done Yet?"

The sequel picks up the quartet when they move from the big city to the suburbs for an idyllic life. A house renovation leads to chaos, particularly when the contractor who clashes with Cube bonds with his wife and the two kids. Storyline isn't far from the "Blandings" redo, and Hank Nelken's script is being retrofitted into a sequel by David Stem and David Weiss, writers of the original."

Expected to return are Nia Long and that pair of amazingly obnoxious children.

Sounds like The Money Pit. They must have spun 'The Wheel of Bad Ideas' for this one.

After so many sequals and remakes, it finally happened, a movie that's a sequal to one movie and a remake of another... starring Ice Cube...

But hey, you have to admire the logic... why scrape the bottom of one barrel when you scrape the bottom of two at half the price?

QUOTE Sounds like The Money Pit. END QUOTE

Actually, 'The Money Pit' was a remake of 'Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House'. So essentially, this is a remake of a remake. Oh, Hollywood, the bastion of originality.

Cheers,
Kevin

So I guess you have to be retarded to be successful in Hollywood.

Yeah....right....so let's make a sequel to a movie that was already shi**y......even for the modest "film" that it was, it couldn't even succeed. Hollywood should really just go belly up, as if it hasn't already. Is originality all too much to ask?? And, as usual, the idotic AmeriKan masses will pile into theaters in droves for this garbage........won't see me crying when they get blown up (this coming from a fellow "American"). Ice Cube is a good actor and a decent rapper (in comparison to most of what is released today) but he really needs to pick his roles better.

I think if anything, the movie is appropriatly named. I can just imagine everyone in the theater thinking "are we done yet?"

Now I want to rent the sequel and try to picture Ice Cube in the main role.
