The show is structured around a challenge to various teams of contestants, to take an automobile and turn it into a completely different machine altogether. The group is given seven days, a budget of $3000, and the final product must resemble a stock car, but be able to transform into the assigned machine. If the end result is a failure, Jesse feeds it to a shredder, though all of the endeavors are amazing examples of extraordinary ingenuity. During season one, Jesse and crew turn a Chevy Impala into a zamboni, a hot dog vending stand into a dragster; an attempt to turn a hearse into a shredder however, gets shredded itself.
