Paul Anderson Bails on "Castlevania" Flick
Given that he's directed movies like "Mortal Kombat," "Resident Evil," and "Alien vs. Predator," it's not like video game fans were exactly clamoring for Paul W.S. Anderson to helm the big-screen version of the "Castlevania" video game, so here's some potentially good news: He's offically off the project.
Knowing Anderson, he'll probably stay on as a producer, but according to Dread Central, it looks like the "Event Horizon" helmer will now set his sights in his remake of Roger Corman's "Death Race 2000."
No word yet on who, if anyone, will step in to cover the "Castlevania" project, but I'm sure there's a young cinematographer out there who'd just love the gig.

Don't get me wrong; it is a fairly fun video game with some sentimental value to me, but a movie? Give me a f*%$ing break. (Reply to this) |

CFM writes: on Mar 28 2007 09:06 AM Hate all you want, but just like any other idea, it'll either suck or be great, regardless of the origins of its inspiration. I remember people bitching about a movie based on a fairly not-so-fun Disney attraction. Something with pirates, if I remember correctly. (Reply to this) |

Mikeal420 writes: on Mar 28 2007 09:10 AM In reply to this comment (#859508) not worth making a movie out of??!!! have you ever played Simon's Quest(the second Castlevania on Nintendo)-- the game had the best story line of any horror videogame ever made (and better than the majority of horror movies)-- if they made a movie out of that (and actually made it right) I'd see it in a heartbeat (Reply to this) |

blorenze writes: on Mar 28 2007 02:51 PM It would be cool if some forum (be it movie or video game or whatever) found a really good way to go over Alucard's story from Symphony of the Night and Castlevania 3. Dracula's son, born of a mortal, coming to defeat his father and save his father's fleeting humanity at the same time. I think its pretty epic, even if the two games were more fighting than story. Shatter24 writes: on Mar 29 2007 05:40 AM In reply to this comment (#859518) Happy to know Paul W.S. Anderson sticking around All you haters sound like a friggin' art house crowd. Oh . . . I hate Anderson, he just makes those action movie thingies. Give me a break. He makes relatively forgetable plots into good action films. All those movies listed above were successful and had a relatively positive reaction from critics and audiences alike. When Anderson leaves a project and just producers, that when the problems arise (See Mortal Kombat 2 and Resident Evil 2, if you have any questions about this). This guy has a good eye for stylized action, and his stories actually have some substance to them. So, he deserves to be respected as head and above better than Uwe Boll. I hate to tell you guys, but Scorcesse, Speilberg and Cameron ain't gonna touch these movies he does; so he is the best shot at making Castlevania a success (any other option would be a music video director, fight choreographer or Uwe Boll - who would more likely make it suck). Paul W.S. Anderson rules. (Reply to this) |

tigerfan814 writes: on Mar 29 2007 05:48 AM In reply to this comment (#859520) Well put. For the most part, I couldn't agree more. Especially about the big producers not touching these projects. I, for one, think he did as good as he could. Especially considering the source materials he had to work with. (Reply to this) |

Runawayrunaway! writes: on Mar 29 2007 06:18 AM Yeah haters, why do you have to be hating on a guy who makes "action movie thingies"? It's not like every movie is supposed to be Shakespeare, or good, or have any visible effort put into telling a good story, or containing any substance whatsoever, with characters that are developed, with good dialogue, a plot that is coherent, or any of that art house stuff. Paul WS Anderson doesn't make those kinds of movies, he makes Sprite commercial movies, flashy empty movies that would be tolerable if they were 30 seconds long. (Reply to this) |
