"The Mummy" Moves to Montreal
by Scott Weinberg | March 01, 2007
Discuss Article
"The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns" were shot in Morocco, Egypt and London. "The Mummy 3" will soon be shooting in ... Montreal.

Our slow news week continues on with this latest tidbit on the third "Mummy" movie: It'll shoot in Montreal. No start date yet, but there you have it.

As reported earlier, Rob Cohen will be directing from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Current speculation indicates that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will be returning, although neither are a done deal yet.

Montreal? Yeah, nothing says Egypt and Mummies like Montreal. Perfect setting for
Le Abominable Snowman maybe. I got un bad feeling about this.

Well, Old Montreal can actually do a pretty good imitation of most European cities, so I assume that's where the filming will occur.

Actually, I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend who lives in Montreal that the plot revolves around the separatists in Quebec discovering the mummy of their late former premier and separatist leader Rene Levesque.

Brendan Frazer then finds the mummy of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and the two mummies battle it out for the future of Canada on the Plains of Abraham. I also heard that Godzilla will appear but won't have much of role since he cannot speak french. But as I said, this came from friend of a friend of a friend, so take this news with a grain of salt.

300 was shot in Montreal, on a digital backlot. I imagine they will be using that heavily. Plus, Montreal and Quebec City have a look that is very old european - it can stand in for many cities overseas.
