The film centers around his relationship with a prostitute (Griffiths of HILARY AND JACKIE). Over time, he seeks refuge in his friendship with Bettina from his estranged family. At the same time, his only son is zealously embracing his Muslim heritage in an effort to fill the void left by his disenchantment with Western ideals.
