Consensus: The Naked Gun is chock full of gags that are goofy, unapologetically crass, and ultimately hilarious.

This comic cop and master car-crasher must protect Queen Elizabeth II when world terrorists target her for assassination during her visit to the U.S. Despite this high-level assignment, Frank still has time to fall in love with a younger woman (Priscilla Presley), and nearly destroy the world several times over while trying to save it. Considerably more successful than the TV series it was based on (POLICE SQUAD!), this zany parody led to two sequels and a comedy career for Leslie Nielsen, then known mainly for his role in FORBIDDEN PLANET. The endlessly tasteless juvenilia should make you ashamed of laughing yourself into a stupor.

...often laugh-out-loud funny, tears-to-the-eyes comical, sometimes fall-down-on-the-floor hysterical.

Nielsen in particular is superb, cracking his façade for only the biggest of jokes.

Not quite up to Airplane! or Top Secret!, but there are still laughs aplenty.

The Naked Gun is a continuous stream of verbal and visual gags that come so fast, you don't have time to realize how bad/old/corny they are.

The Naked Gun is crass, broad, irreverent, wacky fun -- and absolutely hilarious from beginning to end.

Nielsen perfectly embodies Drebin with the kind of deadpan seriousness that’s essential to making well-written one-liners and situations seem ten times as funny.
