The endlessly tasteless juvenilia should make you ashamed of laughing yourself into a stupor.

Consensus: The Naked Gun is chock full of gags that are goofy, unapologetically crass, and ultimately hilarious.

This comic cop and master car-crasher must protect Queen Elizabeth II when world terrorists target her for assassination during her visit to the U.S. Despite this high-level assignment, Frank still has time to fall in love with a younger woman (Priscilla Presley), and nearly destroy the world several times over while trying to save it. Considerably more successful than the TV series it was based on (POLICE SQUAD!), this zany parody led to two sequels and a comedy career for Leslie Nielsen, then known mainly for his role in FORBIDDEN PLANET. Reviews for The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
It's excruciatingly rotten in every sense: not funny, not comical, not entertaining, not even fun to look at.
The Naked Gun is a continuous stream of verbal and visual gags that come so fast, you don't have time to realize how bad/old/corny they are.
Nielsen perfectly embodies Drebin with the kind of deadpan seriousness that’s essential to making well-written one-liners and situations seem ten times as funny.
Despite all the outrageous comedy and raunchy bathroom jokes, [the Zuckers] create endearing characters that are likable.
Nielsen in particular is superb, cracking his façade for only the biggest of jokes.
...often laugh-out-loud funny, tears-to-the-eyes comical, sometimes fall-down-on-the-floor hysterical.
Not quite up to Airplane! or Top Secret!, but there are still laughs aplenty.
