Consensus: Has the same problems as the worst SNL movies: one-note characters and plots unreasonably stretched to feature length runtime.

Reviews for A Night at the Roxbury
We have to survive on a diet of low calorie slapstick and quick-fix buffoonery.
Shun this witless showcase for the Saturday Night Live double act of Ferrell and Kattan.
The Butabi brothers are uber-losers, and therein lies the joke. Between spoofs on nightclubs, personal trainers and hitting on hotties, the brothers bob their heads to the beat and make complete fools of themselves.
Not the rock-bottom worst of the SNL skit-derived films, but pretty darn close...
Anyone who is more than momentarily diverted by this motion picture has such a radically different idea from me of what constitutes 'entertainment' that we may never agree on anything.
If only the movie's writers (there were half a dozen) and directors (there were two -- one bailed after two weeks) had created a movie one-fourth as funny as this sketch was.
It would take far better writing than Kattan, Ferrell and Steve Koren can muster to make it less than an ordeal.
A Night at the Roxbury takes an already-thin concept and tediously stretches it far beyond the breaking point -- and that of viewers' patience levels.
A Night at the Roxbury probably never had a shot at being funny anyway, but I don't think it planned to be pathetic. It's the first comedy I've attended where you feel that to laugh would be cruel to the characters.
The Butabis (Will Ferrell as gangly Steve and Chris Kattan as weasely Doug) are especially dismal to watch for 80-something minutes, more like Pat than Wayne and Garth.
The director, John Fortenberry, whose background is in television, has probably done the best that can be done with characters who were never meant to speak.
Audiences are likely to be as repelled by this lame & lamer combo as their would-be dance partners, because underneath their shallow and clueless veneers is just more shallowness and cluelessness.
