After receiving a mysterious demonic African mask in the mail, ELLEN MORRIS is attacked by a "being" she refers to as THE NIGHTMARE MAN. Her doctors and husband, William believe Ellen is a paranoid schizophrenic and needs to spend some quality time at a mental facility for further examination. On the way to the hospital, their car runs out of gas. William walks to the nearest gas station as Ellen waits in the car watching the sunset. Alone once again, Ellen is attacked by the mysterious Nightmare Man. She manages to flee into the nearby woods... but is this man/demon real or is it all in Ellen's mind? Running for her life, Ellen stumbles upon a country house where two young couples are vacationing for the weekend. She barely escapes the Nightmare Man by running into their house, claiming there's a killer outside! The couples are suspicious and wary, and contact William on his cell phone. He warns them of Ellen's condition and tells them to be careful. "She may be dangerous to herself and others." The couples are now faced with some major questions. Is the threat outside, or is it already inside with them? Is Ellen telling the truth or is she a potential killer? Is the killer a man, woman, or something supernatural..? And then the real terror begins! NIGHTMARE MAN -- a surprising horror thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. When the sun goes down, HE comes out to play! There is no escaping the NIGHTMARE MAN. -- © Official Site [More]

The saving grace is the obvious awareness of the familiar tropes, coupled with a clear effort to use them in clever, surprising ways.

Rough around the edges, but it is also frequently funny in its adherence to clichés and does boast an energetic tone.

The plot is derivative, the dialogue cumbersome and cliché-ridden.

...succeeds absolutely at what it aspires to ... it's an amusing little "midnight movie" built mostly out of off-the-rack elements.

Intermittently fun and occasionally witty, with just the right touch of self-awareness.

If there were a 99 Cents Store for movies, cheapo pic -- designed more for lonely male geeks in their teens and above than the date crowd -- would fit nicely on the shelves.

All impenetrably dark nighttime shots, politely telegraphed shocks and limp, transparent misogyny masquerading as genre-savvy hijinks.

A solid, whirlwind of a horror movie, with more twists and turns than a hula hoop competition.
