Writer-director Hiroyuki "Sabu" Tanaka's first feature film follows three misfits running through the streets of Tokyo. The mayhem begins when the quiet, unassuming Yasuda (Tomoro Taguchi) decides to rob a bank. En route to the robbery, however, he forgets his mask and ducks into a nearby convenience store for a replacement. When the store's clerk, a washed-up rock star named Aizawa (Diamond Yukai), witnesses Yasuda shoplifting the mask, he pursues the thief. During his chase, Aizawa literally runs into Takeda (Shinichi Tsutsumi), a yakuza thug whom he owes money, and suddenly the three men begin a ridiculous sprint across Tokyo. What starts out as a heated pursuit becomes something far different, especially when the yakuza and the police get involved. Tanaka employs a Tarantino-esque use of flashbacks to both punctuate the chase and shed further light on the lives of the runners in this quirky crime comedy. [More]
