Consensus: NATM has some funny moments, but the movie requires the audience to have familiarity with the movies being spoofed and a tolerance for toilet and sexual humor to be truly effective.

In his feature film directorial debut, Joel Gallen spoofs the ever-popular teen genre. The students of John Hughes High School live the plot lines of numerous teen flicks, including SHE'S ALL THAT, AMERICAN PIE, TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, VARSITY BLUES, and SIXTEEN CANDLES, to name just a few. The most popular boy, Jake Wyler (Chris Evans) has bet his friends that he can make Janey Briggs (Chyler Leigh)--the poor, smart girl from the wrong side of the tracks--prom queen. Meanwhile, her little brother is in pursuit of the most beautiful girl he's ever seen when he's not getting into trouble with his geeky friends. Of course, a teen movie wouldn't be complete without a mean-spirited cheerleading captain, a lovestruck best friend, and a foreign exchange student, all of whom have prominent roles in the film. Throw in a few guest appearances from familiar faces from some of the best-known teen movies of the 1980s, along with remakes of songs from the same films--and even some word-for-word dialogue--and you have an amusing walk down memory lane for anyone who has a soft spot for THE BREAKFAST CLUB, CRUEL INTENTIONS, and PRETTY IN PINK. One of the most incompetent, thoughtless, witless, smug, cynical, one-dimensional, puerile, boring and deadening movies I have ever seen.

Just when you think films have got as bad as they're ever going to be, along comes a picture that takes cinema to a whole new level of shoddiness.

...crude and unfunny, one of those movies that seem to be put together by cynical marketers who have reason to be convinced American moviegoers will laugh at — and celebrate — any movie that “dares” invoke scatological play and sexual titillation.

If you have a high tolerance for unblinking gross-out gags and you love making fun of Freddie Prinze Jr. flicks, odds are you'll have a good time with this one.

If you haven't brushed up on the latest Freddie Prinze Jr. bomb, you'll simply feel stuck in detention.

Not Another Teen Movie is a happy, nasty and frequently hilarious assault on 20 years' worth of youth pictures.

NATM gets in a few good jabs, but to call this a movie is to malign such thoughtful, well-constructed films as Dude, Where's My Car and Freddy Got Fingered.

Perhaps the most tasteless comedy ever aimed at a multiplex. At least until the sequel.
