A clever satire that's layered like a breakfast club sandwich with sly in-jokes, sight gags, gross-out scenes, and, of course, requisite bathroom humor.

Consensus: NATM has some funny moments, but the movie requires the audience to have familiarity with the movies being spoofed and a tolerance for toilet and sexual humor to be truly effective.

In his feature film directorial debut, Joel Gallen spoofs the ever-popular teen genre. The students of John Hughes High School live the plot lines of numerous teen flicks, including SHE'S ALL THAT, AMERICAN PIE, TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, VARSITY BLUES, and SIXTEEN CANDLES, to name just a few. The most popular boy, Jake Wyler (Chris Evans) has bet his friends that he can make Janey Briggs (Chyler Leigh)--the poor, smart girl from the wrong side of the tracks--prom queen. Meanwhile, her little brother is in pursuit of the most beautiful girl he's ever seen when he's not getting into trouble with his geeky friends. Of course, a teen movie wouldn't be complete without a mean-spirited cheerleading captain, a lovestruck best friend, and a foreign exchange student, all of whom have prominent roles in the film. Throw in a few guest appearances from familiar faces from some of the best-known teen movies of the 1980s, along with remakes of songs from the same films--and even some word-for-word dialogue--and you have an amusing walk down memory lane for anyone who has a soft spot for THE BREAKFAST CLUB, CRUEL INTENTIONS, and PRETTY IN PINK. Reviews for Not Another Teen Movie
Not Another Teen Movie is a happy, nasty and frequently hilarious assault on 20 years' worth of youth pictures.
Teen is nothing more than the timelessly crude throwaway project it wants to be.
Another major culprit here is Joel Gallen, a former MTV exec whose idea of 'direction' is to drive a joke into the ground and continue to milk it long after it has become annoying.
It was not good to see yet still more wretched excess in the jokes about characters being sprayed with vast quantities of excrement.
If ever there were a genre long overdue for a vicious lampooning, it would have to be the cliché-plagued...teen comedy/romance. Now the time for reckoning has arrived.
A willfully bad film that makes fun of inadvertently bad films: the results are predictably unwatchable.
I admit I laughed once or twice but not enough to recommend anyone plunking down hard cash to see it.
By the time a member of teen-movie royalty makes a cameo in the film's finale, Not Another Teen Movie has long exhausted any hope of succeeding. Instead it becomes, well, just another teen movie.
For the most part NATM requires passing acquaintance with the source material.
A lowly slice of wanton vulgarity that will have people smacking their heads and exclaiming, 'Not another idiotic spoof movie!'
Like the generations it entertains, the vitality of the teen movie genre waxes and wanes.
Not only is it consistently clever, but it has respect for many of the movies it lampoons.
Stupid, offensive entertainment delivered with nothing more than a smirk is still stupid and offensive.
NATM gets in a few good jabs, but to call this a movie is to malign such thoughtful, well-constructed films as Dude, Where's My Car and Freddy Got Fingered.
For every one and a half good jokes, there’s a bad one, yet when its funny, its more often than not, very funny.
Too much of Not Another Teen Movie simply duplicates previous films, without adding anything.
Forget the teen movies; what this one has to worry about is audience members thinking 'Not Another Parody.'
Gruesomely unfunny, an appalling debacle that's like one long, agonizing groan...an astoundingly awful picture.
