Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant forge memorable chemistry in this charmer about two very different people--William, an unassuming bookstore owner in London's Notting Hill section, and Anna, a Hollywood actress--who, against the odds, fall in love. After Anna wanders into William's shop while filming on location in London, the two share an instant attraction and find themselves attempting to forge a normal relationship despite Anna's megawatt star power. Screenwriter Richard Curtis (FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL) has crafted a traditional romantic comedy that is surprisingly frank in its depiction of the lives of the rich and famous and the price they pay for success. Reviews for Notting Hill
One reason the film succeeds is that it so deftly combines elements from sappy U.S. romantic comedies and the much more caustic British satires. And when that experiment works here, it works well.
An unconvincing romance, languid pacing and a lot of empty scenes played out specifically for laughs, to the detriment of plot.
Cumple el cometido que se trazó desde el principio, que es el de entretener por un poco más de dos horas a la audiencia
Good hair, great chemistry, and a close-up of her at the finale that would make a dentist weep for joy!
Julia Roberts flashes her megawatt smile, Hugh Grant does his patented dithering English fellow bit and they're just as cute as two buttons in this winning romantic comedy.
It's funny, sympathetic, mostly smart, and it boasts a likable cast of characters led by two performers who have star power and know how to use it.
I have to give Roberts credit for being willing to poke fun at herself.
