Director Phillips confesses to frat membership in his youth, and even made a documentary on the subject. So why is this not funnier or more outrageous?

Unfortunately for him, his girlfriend, Heidi (Juliette Lewis), has been getting more adventurous on her own, by throwing wild sex parties while he's away. When Mitch catches her in the act, he moves out and takes up residence in a house close to the local university. This prompts his buddies--the newly married Frank (Will Ferrell) and Beanie (Vince Vaughn), a jaded husband, father, and stereo-store tycoon--to throw Mitch a huge party in honor of his renewed single status. Antics at the party lead to the formation of a makeshift fraternity where age and academics don't matter, and Mitch is the reluctant "godfather." But when the university's scheming dean (Jeremy Piven) catches wind of the new fraternity, he becomes determined to stop their fun. Will the boys overcome the dean's sinister plans? Will Mitch find love again? Will Frank please stop running around naked? And, hey, isn't that the cute girl who plays Jack Bauer's daughter on the TV series 24? These questions--and many more--are answered in the giddily fun and unabashedly immature OLD SCHOOL. [More]

Reviews for Old School
It's pretty crass and broad, but there are bigger wastes of time around than this.
Redeemed by good comic performances from its oddly-matched central trio.
It's a hilariously funny and unexpectedly warm look at three men who just want to be boys again.
Fortunately, there is a level of genuine humour here that keeps us laughing between the stupid stuff.
When an Oster Breadmaker gets some of the film's biggest laughs, you know the thing's in trouble.
The lead males give impressively modulated performances that keep the laughs flowing as all hell breaks loose.
Will Ferrell is a fearless comedian, and he commits completely to his insanity in the film, and that makes it work.
Only fitfully funny, except when Ferrell is onscreen -- then you won't stop laughing.
Une bonne location pour un party entre amis et pour ceux qui ne sont pas fatigués de la recette des films d’ados.
The recess bell should have rung immediately into the first period of this frothy yet flat and insufferable scholastic satire.
If you like humor that's somewhere below the belt, then Old School is for you.
Will Ferrell ... makes about ten minutes of this movie side-splittingly hilarious. That's like finding a few pieces of crunchy cereal in a bowl of sour milk.
You don't need to run stoplights getting to the theater — the video will do — but Old School fulfills your expectations.
