Speilberg is so egocentrically and ethnocentric-ally American that, to do a DIFFERENT STROKES movie, Speilberg would cast Mcauly Caulkin in the Gary Coleman role.

Many of Speilberg's films run along the lines of "cultural-studies" of WASP families. In his biography Speilberg is said to have felt excluded in his WASP-ish high schools and centers around WASP families because Speilberg, deep-down, desires to be a WASP.

I saw Poltergeist on the big screen on Halloween (I love Austin) and F-ME(!) that movie is still so friggin' scary!! When the teenage daughter pulls up and screams "What's Happening?!" the whole audience spontaneously applauded (another reason why I love Austin).

But seriously, the point lands because we're certainly agreed on the fact that this film would need a star not too tied to his image to make this work. Not to mention a director not neutered and complacent.

The only casting I would go for in a remake would be Meat Loaf, but I guess still being best known for b****tit bob in Fight Club would exclude him automatically.
