Consensus: A party movie that substitutes surfs for snow, Out Cold will leave viewers just that with its gross-out humor and sophomoric plot.

Runtime: 90 mins

Genre: Comedies

Synopsis: Bull Mountain is an Alaskan ski town where snowboarding cowboys rule the slopes. When "The Mayor" Papa Muntz dies, he leaves Rick (Jason London) in charge. His dying words are, "Don't go changing Bull Mountain!" So Rick and his buddies Luke (Zach Galifianakis), Anthony (Flex Alexander), and Pigpen (Derek Hamilton) continue to chug beer at the local cantina, cruise the mountain for the best trails, and admire the hottest chicks. Everything's great until John (Lee Majors, "The Bionic Man"), a rich developer from Colorado, rolls into town in his SUV with "SNOWBIZ" plates. He's got his two stepdaughters with him--a voluptuous Swedish blond, Inga (Playboy Playmate of the Year 1997, Victoria Silvstedt), and a cute French brunette, Anna (Caroline Dhavernas). As they turn the town upside down, Rick realizes that it's time for him to make some tough decisions about his future and the future of Bull Mountain. OUT COLD does for snowboarders what CADDYSHACK did for golfers--it pokes fun at the stereotypes surrounding the sport, and makes caricatures of its devotees. The resulting comedy is surprisingly funny. The character of Rick is played with appealing wit, and he and Jenny (A.J. Cook), the token snowboarder jockette, have real chemistry. [More]

The best that can be said of Out Cold is that it is generally more lame than obnoxious.

Funnier than it has any right to be and it's generally enjoyable.

There's a good deal of stupid, a lot of silly, hordes of dumb and a bunch of hackneyed, but no funny.

What really drags this sloppy but functional movie down are the cringe-inducing moments of homophobia masquerading as political correctness.

When Lee Majors can steal every scene he's in, your movie's in trouble.

Out Cold, which seems to have been written by a head trauma victim, is so dumb you'd think 'spoof,' except that it isn't funny.

While much of the movie is unspeakably vile, the scenes of snowboarding action -- featuring stunt doubles, no doubt -- are undeniably impressive.

Doesn't ever quite seem to elevate itself above an '80s 'youth against the establishment' genre film.

Could have been...a "Caddyshack" of winter sports. But the inexperienced and bumbling Malloys never even try to graduate the picture off the bunny slope.

The direction is pedestrian at best, and the laughs are little more than sporadic, nervous chuckles.

Lame, sophomoric and pretty much what you'd expect for a film such as this, Out Cold is likely to disappear from theaters about on pace with a snowball's chance in you know where.

While the presence of pro boarders doing their thing might be a selling point for enthusiasts, the predominantly lame goings-on will leave others snow-bored.
