Suppose everything you knew – everything you trusted – became a lie. For Matt Lee Whitlock, that nightmare has become a reality. Matt (Denzel Washington) is the chief of police in small Banyan Key, Florida. A hardworking man who’s good at his job, he’s respected by his peers and beloved by his community. But when Banyan Key is shocked by a brutal double homicide, Matt starts his investigation – and his life starts to unravel. As details of the case begin to surface, all of the evidence points to Matt as the prime suspect. Now with the investigation in full swing and several people working the case, Matt finds himself in a race against time to solve the murders before others uncover the clues he’s finding and he himself falls under suspicion. He has to stay a few steps ahead of his own police force and everyone he’s trusted in order to clear his name and uncover the horrifying truth. As the film’s intricate storyline twists and turns, speeding towards its explosive climactic confrontation, it becomes all too apparent that the truth is on Matt’s side – time, however, is not. Reviews for Out of Time
Franklin's direction is blandly by the book; we know all the plot holes will be ignored, and that there will be a simplistic resolution.
Franklin seems to be aware that the audience knows what is going to happen.
The suspense is killing, but the sense of being in the hands of a skilled storyteller is relaxing, too. Out of Time is a blast without making you work for it.
I have a policy about life insurance policies in movies like this: Don’t be the beneficiary. Just don’t do it. Nothing good ever comes of it.
O roteiro acaba negligenciando um aspecto que deveria ser importante para o herói: a inteligência.
Only good enough to remind of the kind of filmmaker that Franklin has been and, hope springing eternal, could be again.
More exciting than smart or chic or witty, Out of Time is relaxing, delightfully old-fashioned entertainment.
Denzel Washington has never made better use of his screen persona than he does in Out of Time, a slick crime thriller from director Carl Franklin.
Director Carl Franklin previously worked with Washington in the criminally overlooked Devil in a Blue Dress, and he gets a solid performance out of him here again.
