This compilation includes the entirety of his animated work from his student days in the 1960s to his station IDs for MTV, summing up to some 60 minutes of eclectic, eccentric color-pencil animations. PLYMPTOONS is a collection of Plympton's signature cartoons re-created as very brief animated bits. ONE OF THOSE DAYS, YOUR FACE, 25 WAYS TO QUIT SMOKING, and HOW TO KISS provide surreal and often violent visions in the spirit of Terry Gilliam's animation for MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS. Some of the best works are less well known, including BOOMTOWN, a short musical about military spending during the cold war; DRAWING LESSON #2, about the romantic misadventures of a pencil mark; and the poetic and charming LUCAS, EAR OF CORN, about the life and death of an earnest ear of corn who is filled with philosophical curiosity. Plympton's funny and inventive work proves delightful again and again and again. This is an an expanded version of an earlier release, also entited PLYMPTOONS. [More]
