The series... A curious blend of sarcastic and satirical humor with genuine concern for issues facing teens, POPULAR never lived up to its name in the ratings and was canceled after two seasons. The series centered on the lives of two girls, Brooke, the well-liked blonde cheerleader, and Sam, her brunette opposite, after they are thrust into each others lives when their parents get married. POPULAR, like many of its contemporary teen comedies on TV and in film, takes the social structure of high school seriously, and examines it satirically to reveal its absurdities and how it is ultimately little different from the world of adults.
