On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, The Powerpuff Girls is a fast, frenetic, funny, even punny 6 -- aimed specifically at a grade-school audience.

POWERPUFF GIRLS creator Craig McCracken takes his widely popular characters--Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and their posse--and kicks it up a few notches with a stylish look that's easy on the eyes and engaging to all audiences. The film begins with a flashback to the POWERPUFF GIRLS' early days, when they were but a glimmer in the eye of their father-creator Professor Plutonium. The three girls--who are cute to the point of distraction--are not the pride of Townsville like they are on TV. They are persecuted as "freaks" because they cannot control their special powers. Who could have predicted that a nuclear-powered game of tag would wreak havoc on Townsville? It's clear that the girls must redeem themselves, so they turn to the evil Mojo Jojo, unaware that he's the evil ape they will come to know and hate later. The animation's retro 1950s lounge-style background art, its impossibly vibrant and often-changing colors, and its eerie 3-D effects create a pleasingly cinematic feel. The result is a deeper, resonating picture. The filmmakers did not abandon the naïve style that gave the original POWERPUFF GIRLS television show its trademark charm, making the movie all the better. Reviews for The Powerpuff Girls Movie
The Powerpuff Girls' first feature-length movie may be a treat for the fans of the show, but its non-stop excitement and sense of humor is going to win over just about anyone.
Watching The Powerpuff Girls Movie, my mind kept returning to one anecdote for comparison: the cartoon in Japan that gave people seizures.
They’re the Powerpuff Girls! And they’re here to save the summer from lousy family entertainment.
Powerpuff Girls, the movie, could use a little more power and a lot less puff in its storyline.
...a good, moral film for kids and a fun piece of colorful entertainment for everyone else.
if there is a better excuse for the over-use of the drug Ritalin, I don’t want to see it.
Mojo JoJo says, "Origin movies bore me. Films that speak to the beginnings of superheroism cause sleep. Powerpuffs are more interesting when they are fighting bad guys, not being created, so this film made my lids heavy."
I laughed during a few scenes, grinned during a few others -- and sat silently, unsmiling and mildly impatient, during at least two or three repetitious and interminable stretches.
All that (Powerpuff Girls) charm is present in the movie, but it's spread too thin.
The relationship that forms between the girls and Professor Utonium is sweet and endearing. Then the horrid plot comes into play and all is destroyed.
If you like the TV show, by all means see it, and if your kids like it, it'll be a good idea to get someone else's parents to let your kids tag along and you see something else.
For the first two-thirds of this sparklingly inventive and artful, always fast and furious tale, kids will go happily along for the ride.
The X potion gives the quickly named Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup supernatural powers that include extraordinary strength and laser-beam eyes, which unfortunately don't enable them to discern flimsy screenplays.
An entertaining romp that stays true to the material's television roots, this film is a good starting point for viewers unfamiliar with the series.
