At best only manages to showcase the tonsil talents of gospel singing Whitney to little lasting effect.

Reviews for The Preacher's Wife
While it sounds like standard promotional overstatement, it makes sense: even if Washington has top billing, our Miss Thing is the film's (and the CD's) major asset, no question.
A welcome boost for audiences seeking images of black characters without criminal tendencies.
Memorable Christmas movies work when they convey sentiment in a genuine fashion. The Preacher's Wife is destined to become a holiday classic.
Reminds us to cherish the ones we love for they are the presence of God in our lives.
An endearingly modest entertainment elevated by the luminous double presence of Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington.
The Preacher's Wife is one Christmas picture that actually is in the spirit of the season. It's warm, sentimental, amusing yet serious, bringing fantasy to bear upon the painfully real.
A fun, feel-good family film that actually does leave you feeling good.
The Preacher's Wife qualifies as old-fashioned Hollywood movie making at its corniest and most saccharine. But the mostly African American cast puts an engaging spin on the chestnut, and it works beautifully.
Houston's inevitable chart-toppers aside, the film mainly sells the values of cooperation and good-samaritanism.
This movie could have done more, but what it does, it makes you feel good about.
A somewhat predictable holiday confection buoyed by Washington's engaging lead performance.
