Neither he nor the money were ever seen again. This film takes a fictional look at what happened next. The hijacker, an unstable but charming man named J.R. Meade, lands in the forests of Washington, and makes his way back home. Once there, he gathers his long-suffering wife, and heads for Mexico. But two men are separately pursuing J.R.: one is Bill Gruen, an airline insurance investigator, who was Meade's Green Beret instructor.
