R. Kelly Still Trapped in the Closet
Ten more chapters of midgets, priests, and infidelity!
It's been almost two long years, hip-hopera fans, but R. Kelly is finally back with more rhythmic, closet-bound insanity. The next ten chapters of the (allegedly) diuretic-plagued singer's magnum opus, "Trapped in the Closet," made their debut the other night at the IFC Center theater in New York -- and fortunately for all of us, Entertainment Weekly was there.
It was a formal premiere, complete with paparazzi, red carpet, spotlights, and the man himself. Before the movie started, Reginald Sylvester Kelly held forth, comparing himself to the inventors of the airplane and offering the quote of the evening -- "I'd like to welcome me here" -- before giving the audience a glimpse of how he built his "Closet." From the article:
"If I don't rhyme, I can't tell the story. So it's crazy, if you understand what I'm saying. Like 'Bridget' and 'midget'? I came up with that at Panera Bread -- real talk. And I had spent a whole week on trying to figure out how the hell -- I mean, I got 'midget,' but how can I continue telling the story? But once I came up with, he had a girl named Bridget, I was able to continue on with my story. And that's how 'Trapped in the Closet' goes."
Fortunately, for those of us unable to make it to New York for the premiere, IFC.com is unveiling new chapters on a daily basis. Click through to the second link below to see more!

on Aug 21 2007 11:15 AM When I first heard that R. Kelly had written a song called "Trapped in the Closet," I thought, "Oh, how interesting. He's writing about how difficult it is to be a gay man in the world of hip-hop. He can't come out to the public or he'll risk losing his fan base." Apparently that's not really what the song is about, though. You all should check out the Weird Al parody, called "Trapped in the Drive-Thru." It shows just how ridiculously long and interminable Kelly's song cycle is. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 21 2007 03:55 PM Is R.Kelly NOT giving credit to "South Park"'s creators, who featured him in their Scientology episode entitled "Trapped in the Closet", in which they had his animated image(obviiously not R. Kelly's real voice) sing a song entitled what? "TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET"!!! it was hilarious. (Reply to this) |
