Shia LaBeouf Confirmed as "Indiana Jones" Junior
by Scott Weinberg | March 08, 2007
Discuss Article
According to one of Slate Magazine's sources, it's a done deal: Shia LaBeouf IS on board to play the heroic archaeologist's son in "Indiana Jones 4."

Slate doesn't reveal its very reliable source, but the publication certainly isn't known as a gossip rag, so I've no problem accepting the scoop -- but obviously we'll all want some confirmation from George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, or the magical movie-making wizards over at Paramount Pictures.

LaBeouf in "Transformers"

In case you hadn't noticed the past year has been pretty darn big for the young Mr. LaBeouf. He's got the thriller "Disturbia" coming out soon, he's a featured player in Michael Bay's "Transformers," and now this Indiana Jones gig! Kinda makes you forget he was in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle."

Hilary Duff should play his daughter. That would be so cool!

I don't care either way. I am gonna keep an open mind about this idea and hope that it isn't gonna go the route of Jar Jar or Young Anakin.

God [of good cinema] is Dead
Let me just get this rather obvious--and rhetorical-- rant out of my system:

WHY IN GOD'S GREEN FUCK DO THEY INSIST UPON MAKING 'SON OF' MOVIES!?!?!

-Son of the Mask
-Son of Pink Panther
-Dr. Doolittle 3 (his daughter, and admittedly I didn't see it, but howyadoin' straight-to-video)

The unifying factor: THESE MOVIES BLOW PULSING, HAIRY CHUNKS ...and of course, some unartistic shitstain makes a pile o' cash off them...

No offense to LaBeouf, but to the makers of Indy 4, LET INDIE RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET WITH DIGNITY. BURN A COUPLE'A BRAIN CELLS AND COME UP WITH SOMETHING *NEW*

Having said that, I'm obviously going to go see it and give it a chance-- c'mon, you're not allowed to be born after '76 and miss it. I will simply NOT be happy about it.

I'm not excited about this move Labeouf is a good actor he just seems completely wrong for the role that said yeah I'm sure Spielberg's a little bit better director that the person who did Son of the Mask.

As bad as this sounds I'll hold off judgement till after I see Labeouf's action chops or lack there off in Transformers

If I can hold my tongue when it comes to Heath Ledger and the Joker, I can do it for Labeouf and his Indy gig.

It's way too early to make any judgements.

He looks nothing like Harrison Ford... he acts nothing like Harrison Ford... other than that, I'd say it's a perfect cast! Hopefully they won't go the Temple of Doom-humor-with-kids-and-dumb-blonde-route or otherwise we're in for a bumpy ride. Geez, I hope they don't give Indy Junior Junior his own movie like they did with the Star Wars prequels.

Bring back short round. Random Asian kids with broken english can't be that hard to find.

To Ciaranmv, though I too think Temple of Doom was the least great of the series also think back to the moments you truly associate with the franchise and I think you'll be surprised how many of them were in TOD. I would be totally satisfied if they make another one of that quality.

WHY IN GOD'S GREEN **** DO THEY INSIST UPON MAKING 'SON OF' MOVIES!?!?!

Isn't it obvious that they are setting things up to make a transition from Harrison Ford so they can break off into a series of Indiana Jones Jr. movies? Can't you just see such a movie that will allow Indiana Jones to grow old while keeping Ford in the series for awhile to allow the Indiana Jones Jr. movies to get established?

A kid ! This is what has been holding up production for 15+ years, why not throw in a cameo by Ben Affleck just for good measure. Face it, Speilberg & Lucas have lost their artistic touch to Hollywood capitalism. After sludging through the MINORITY REPORTY & WAR OF THE WORLDS, I realised Speilberg has lost his touch for creating excitement with out the result seeming cold and distant. Perhaps its from the cynical screenplays or his urning to go beyond the playground he created in the 80's. Hopefully this is not the second coming of Jar-Jar.

he didnt really look like Robert Downey Jr. but he played a younger version of him A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints and he pulled it off we should at least wait till we see a trailer or pictures or u know until 2008 before we decide if it was a good idea or not

Of course that in itself is a judgement.

Look, it's not too late to make a judgement or too early. That's what we do with movies. Some need to wait till a trailer is shown before they decide to see it or not. But ultimately it doesn't matter when a decision is made. Yes, ideally it's nice to see a film before judging it, but for crying out loud, we don't owe anything to art, or this film in particular. Some people make a decision to see a film because of the Indiana Jones name alone is attatched to a film. Apparently this judgement is ok, but when we are critical of a casting decision we should hold off because, for whatever reason it's not fair? Look, this series is on thin ice as it is, the creators have as much interest to me as a bad of corkscrew dog turds. So if you don't wish to "judge" (although in essense you are doing just that based on the title alone) so be it, but please don't assume others won't.

It's more of an opinion actually, there's a difference.

One of the major problems in this world is that people are too quick to judge. So that kid is pale as hell and grungy lookin', why does that instantly mandate that he's a huge nerd? It doesn't, but people make the call that he is. If people got to know who/what they were talking about instead of just assuming they'd find out that that kid is incredibly NOT nerdy, he's just irish and doesn't care what people think about him.

When the freakin' picture hasn't even been shot yet, the plot is hazy as hell, and people are making judgments that its going to suck; that's just plain ol' stupid. Yeah, people are going to do it, but again, there's a lot of stupid people out there. I hope this movie is amazing. Then I'll laugh, a lot.

That's what's wrong with people, too quick to judge. Sorry if I'm attempting to break that mold.

Again, that's my opinion, not a judgment.

I'm pretty sure this won't be a "SON OF" movie, it'll just have his son in it. It's not like Spielberg would hand the movie to Shia Labeouf and say "here kid, Harrison just wants to phone this one in". I have faith.
