Made in the same year as MY PAL TRIGGER and UNDER NEVADA SKIES, 1946's RAINBOW OVER TEXAS finds Rogers playing an onscreen version of himself as a famous cowboy-singer who returns to his hometown for a re-creation of the Pony Express only to tangle with local thugs who want to fix the race. Comic relief comes in the form of Rogers's perennially grizzled sidekick, Gabby Hayes, while musical numbers include the talents of the era's preeminent country-western band, Sons of the Pioneers.
