Pixar Preparing for Next Film After "Ratatouille"
by Jeff Giles | January 19, 2007
Discuss Article
Variety reports that Pixar is already laying the groundwork for its follow-up to this June's culinary rat adventure "Ratatouille." Next for the studio is a project entitled "WALL-E," rumored to be about a young robot searching the galaxy for a home. Director Andrew Stanton, who won an Oscar for his work on "Finding Nemo," will take the helm.

Of possibly greater interest to animation fans is the knowledge that Pixar is developing "Toy Story 3" for a possible 2009 release. As fans may recall, Disney was prepping the third installment to the series without Pixar's involvement, but those plans were scrapped after the studios worked out an acquisition deal in 2005.

Pixar looks to be getting away from all the animal CGI movies....nice.

They should be able to come up with some neat stuff with space as a backdrop.

Toy Story 3 isn't necessary, but don't mind that they're making one.

I Love Pixar/Disney. In my opinion however, the films have gone down in quality over the past few years. Cars was o.k at best, and this new one, Ratatouille, is going to be the least popular pixar film ever, mark my words. Every film has always seemed to go one step higher then the last one, but ratatouille just seems like a thrown together film. WALL-E however looks like it will be very good. I saw a screen shot and it looked amazing, and the story sounds like good ole pixar magic, not some rat in france trying to eat high class food. As for Toy Story 3, im looking foward to it,... but Pixar... if you are reading this...PLEASE STOP AT 3, MAKE IT A TRILOGY AND END IT!!!!

Reminds me too much of Robots, even if it does have a different plot.
We've have too many robot movies in the last few years.

no one with the number 69 in their screen name should be taken seriously.

Ratatouille looks very clever. and while I'll agree cars was a low point, you can't judge something as thrown together when all you've seen in a teaser trailer and some photos.

Cars was too Sappy for me, and it was more kiddie and it was a low point. I mean talking cars? C'omon. Finding Nemo, Toy Story 1 and 2, Monsters INC, INCREIBLES. INCREDIBLES 2 would make more sense.

I liked Cars just fine, but it wasn't Pixar's best film...Ratatouille, as I've been hearing, is shaping up to be fantastic. I mean come on...Brad friggin' Bird!

And how are you supposed to just a film by two minutes of footagethat AREN'T EVEN IN THE FINAL FILM, StarScream?

Cars was still a great movie even if it didn't live up to the quality of some of Pixar's other films. If it was any other studio then Cars would have been considered phenomenal and probably had gotten 2 or 3 sequels.

Hey, all im saying is Ratatouille doesnt even seem to me like a pixar film, more like a dreamworks or something. Every pixar film showed us something new, a leap foward in computer animation. Monsters Inc showed off pixars ability to create life like fur and hair. Then we had the underwater effects of Finding Nemo. Then the Incredibles showed that they could pull of Human characters. With Cars, they showed that they were able to do high speed scenes, like in the races. As for Ratatouille,....well, that chesse better look pretty damn amazing!!

Yea, that cheese does look amazing! The animation looks stunning, and Ratatouille looks absolutely fantastic. Any movie that has as innovative of a plot as Ratatouille, and is directed by Brad Bird can't be bad. We're talking about the director of The Iron Giant and The Incredibles here!!!

Actually if you look at the preview they had before Cars the shot of Paris they have in the beginning was absolutely stunning. Not to mention, Brad Bird's directing it, so the story itself (the most important part) will be amazing.

And I really enjoyed Cars. Sure, it was different than The Incredibles, but it still had a level of sophisitication to it that you really don't see in other animated films made in the west. I really enjoyed it (saw it three times in the theater) and I look foreward to this next movie.

Cars was better than A Bug's Life. The worst Pixar movie is the best CGI movie from any other company.

After seeing "Robots", the worst animated movie ever made (and I'm a guy who digs most CGI movies) it will be refreshing to see Pixar take on the vast genre of animated robots.

That is true, Pixar truly is king in the CGI animation department. Nothing else comes close (and yes, that includes Shrek, which I'm fairly certain isn't Pixar....and even if it is... I really don't like Shrek)

Shrek is Dreamworks and I'm not much of a fan of that series myself. I'd like to see Pixar do an animated trilogy of some kind like Star Wars, as opposed to say TS and TS2 which were simply different and complete self contained stories with the same characters.

so far there was only a teaser released that had nothing to do with the stroy. so where do you get this information.

pixar's cars was technically ok, but nothing special while the movie before that was incredibly awesome. so it's not really a downward spiral.

a rat looking for food is the same as a fish looking for a fish, or a toy looking for a toy. and those really sucked or did they?

so it sound like you're full of it. please shut up until you know more.

Pixar rules
I actually liked Cars. I thought it would be the worst Pixar movie going in, so I had lower expectations. Everyone will probably disagree with me, but I thought Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo were the worst Pixar movies (not bad, but not as good as the others). The CGI was amazing, but I thought the stories were better in the Toy Stories, Bugs Life, Incredibles and Cars. It's funny people are picking hairs with Ratatouille. Even if it doesn't live up to the other Pixar movies, it will be better than any non-Pixar CGI with Brad Bird at the helm. Can't wait for this summer's movies! Last summer sucked.

Thank you ShaakTi. Im new to the whole RT thing and im kinda shocked at how everyone is ganging up on me because i voiced an opinion on precious pixar and brad bird. Im not sure why everyone is giving me crap. Im just saying that every other Pixar Teaser Trailer just seemed more convincing. I hope Ratatouille is a good movie, but just by 1st impressions, im doubtful.

the reason that you're attacked is that you're making little sense. and it is a little bit based on nothing (cus there is only a tiny teaser out, which looks like it will be fun but has nothing to do with the story. remember the teasers for finding nemo? they looked broing but that movie did very well)

"In my opinion however, the films have gone down in quality over the past few years." and then:"film has always seemed to go one step higher then the last on" "but ratatouille just seems like a thrown together film"?? why??

"WALL-E however looks like it will be very good. I saw a screen shot and it looked amazing, and the story sounds like good ole pixar magic, not some rat in france trying to eat high class food"

well the good ole pixar magic with wall-e is somebody is looking for somebody. that is the general pixar story ..(a).. is looking for ..(b).. in a context of strange creatures/things that live normal like lives that look like our lives.

rattatouille seems to me a standard pixar theme and from the teaser looks like fun cus ik looks to be more dynamic than cars (and the shot of paris looks again an improvement of skills) and that's where pixar get its strenght. story and speed. in a good pixar movie there is always something happening, and bird knows it, and a lot of RT readers probably know this to.

that's why you get these kind of reactions. your opinion is something contradiction itself, there is not much to base it on and last i think RT readers believe that pixar is on the right track with rattatouille.
