A cowardly soldier (Pearce) is stationed at an isolated military outpost with a bunch of misfits in Sierra Nevada following the Mexican-American War in 1847. When a dazed survivor (Carlyle) of an unfortunate expedition shows up at the outpost, it isn't long before he reveals himself to be a murderous madman with a taste for human flesh. Reviews
The plot begins brazenly, but the story becomes more conventional (though no less bloody) as it goes along.
A terrifically well-made gory horror movie with splashes of humor.
...one of those rare, genuinely subversive (of Hollywood values) films, like Beyond the Valley of the Dolls or Eating Raoul
The one movie of 1999 that looks and feels like nothing you've seen before.
If you take it with a truckload of salt you may just find something of merit.
