While Tom is barely 40, he's already been married and divorced several times. On the other end of the spectrum lies Fay, a well-educated woman who believes--based on her parent's idyllic pairing--that who one marries is the most important decision a person makes in their life. Despite their many differences, Tom and Fay fall head over heels in love with each other from the moment they meet. Their future together hints at the promise of wedding bells until Fay's parents make the shocking and sudden announcement that after 40 years of being happily wedded, they are getting divorced. Thrown into emotional upheaval by this news, Fay will require all the convincing in the world to believe once more that love is worth the risk. Director Deepa Mehta (BOLLYWOOD/HOLLYWOOD) displays a great sense for visual storytelling, making each scene a true feast for the eye. [More]

Wintry symbolism has never felt so forced -- and in a film that ought to have been played as a romantic comedy, it's never been more out of place, either.

A quaintly uncomplicated romance that struggles to keep up with the quality of its acting.

The charisma of the cast goes a long way to bring warmth to this story of winter love.

The tiresome zaniness and Seinfeldian conceits might be forgivable if the romantic plot weren’t so full of empty truisms and nonsense lines that would stump a Zen monk.

The lack of vitality and dramatic storyline renders this tale about faith in love underwhelming and artificial.

...remains entertaining because of the two stars, both of whom give incredibly charismatic performances.

Mehta's confidently crafted film is more intelligent and serious than your standard romantic comedy.
