Consensus: With its forgettable songs and lackluster story, this new Pan will surely entertain kids, but will feel more like a retread to adults.

Return to Never Land opens a new chapter in Walt Disney’s classic “Peter Pan”, as once more we take a magical journey to a place where we never grow up. And even though some years have passed since we last visited, that wonderful world is unchanged. Peter Pan is there, along with Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, and villainous Captain Hook. But Wendy left Never Land, grew up and now she has two children of her own. World War II is raging and has come to the very heart of London. Wendy tries to comfort her young ones with stories of here experiences in Never Land: Danny loves the bedtime tales. But 12-year-old Jane -- a practical child in a world torn by war -- sees no room for make-believe…at least until she’s kidnapped by Captain Hook and whisked off to Never Land! Hook, mistaking her for Wendy, plans to use Jane as bait to capture Peter Pan. But Peter rescues Jane from the villain’s clutches and a rollicking adventure is underway. With Tinker Bell & the Lost Boys at their side, Peter & Jane ultimately defeat the old pirate -- and Jane, at last, finds hope alive within her as the very first Lost Girl. She now understands that imagination has a powerful magic – and many things are possible with faith, trust…and a little pixie dust. -- © 2001 Disney Pictures [More]

Reviews for Return to Never Land
The animation and backdrops are lush and inventive, yet Return to Neverland never manages to take us to that elusive, lovely place where we suspend our disbelief.
If Return to Never Land ... doesn't have a story to match the original's in breadth and imagination, it does a smooth job of recycling its characters and themes.
Return to Never Land may be another shameless attempt by Disney to rake in dough from baby boomer families, but it's not half-bad.
The production values are up there. The use of CGI and digital ink-and-paint make the thing look really slick. The voices are fine as well. The problem, it is with most of these things, is the script.
Like an extra slice of childhood when you least expect it there, Return to Never Land fulfills its promise.
With an anachronistic soundtrack and uneven animation, Return to Neverland feels like an unasked for, direct-to-video rehash of the original.
Decent enough--fast-moving, colorful and energetic--but it's hardly an instant classic.
Nice albeit retro animation but nothing of wit to appease the adults in the audience.
If Disney wants to bastardize children’s classics by imagining what happened (later), the least they could do is show a little ambition and imagination.
A tired re-tread of Disney's well-crafted 1953 cartoon version of "Peter Pan".
Everything about it from the bland songs to the colorful but flat drawings is completely serviceable and quickly forgettable.
This is Disney trying to pull the wool over our eyes, this time bringing their straight-to-video sequel to the big screen.
