Di Bonaventura Wants R-Rated Beverly Hills Cop IV
by Fred Topel | June 26, 2007
Discuss Article
While "Rocky Balboa" fights his last fight, "John Rambo" goes back into action, John McClane "Lives Free or Dies Hard" and "Indiana Jones" saddles up again, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is looking back at Axel Foley.

He wants to make a "Beverly Hills Cop IV" with Eddie Murphy, but Murphy's status as a family comedian has studios worried about letting him swear up a storm again.

"I think it's going to be a really interesting debate and it's one we're going to have for a while," said Di Bonaventura.

Of course, most of Murphy's real fans want him to go back to the good old days. "That's what I want. Will you guys call Paramount and tell them that? The studios says their research is telling them PG. I'm with you. I won't do it if it's PG-13."

Perhaps the fans clamoring for a "Cop IV" need to be more specific. "When you travel with Eddie, people constantly come up to him and go, 'When are you going to do Axel? When are you going to do Axel?' So I think there's a reason why Indiana Jones, there's a reason why these things come up is because the audience loves them that much that they're the ones that usually are informing us why we should do it."

I enjoyed all three films and this one should also be rated R. Eddie can be a family man in real life. This is only a movie.

We want the Eddie Murphy from "Delirious", not the Eddie Murphy from "Daddy Day Care".

The trilogy is lost.
Three was so horrendously bad that there's no way they can save face. Let Murphy rot, he's made his bed. This guy has all the ability to pick proper films like O.J. has to be a divorce mediator.

i just love it when actors who pick up transvestite prostitutes are considered "family comedians" in hollywood.

this is a terrible idea.

You say transvestite prostitute like it's a bad thing. :)

You're right though. Terrible idea.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 would have to be Axl Foley on stage with a gun telling a 90-minute version of "the Aristocrats" in order to redeem Murphy as a comedic actor.

Martin Lawrence has already signed on to that idea. It's a role he was born to play.

The rating of Beverly Hills Cop 4
I think it should be R because how can you bring back the franchise for one last run on a campy PG rating its not only wrong its sacrilige

Making it PG is the worst idea. Making Live Free or Die Hard PG-13 almost killed it, but they were lucky. Axl Foley is NOT a PG kinda guy, so don't turn him into one because it WON'T work.

Studios don't care about substance. Just money. It sucks. We need them booted and bring back to good days when filmmakers ran the studios. Not morons who only look at the accounting. Jesus, it doesn't take much money to make a movie like this, it wouldn't need the PG-13 audience. Plus, whatever happened to getting your older sibling or friends to buy your ticket and sneaking in. I used to do that all the time and when I got older, I bought my younger friends tickets.
