While a subsequent remake offers stunning color photography, the chemistry of stars Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy is irreplaceable. MacDonald plays Rose Marie de Flor, an opera singer whose beloved brother, John (James Stewart), breaks free from prison, killing a Canadian Mountie in order to escape. In desperate straits, John sends Indian buddy Boniface to bring Rose Marie to him. Meanwhile, Canadian Mountie Sergeant Bruce (Nelson Eddy) is dispatched to carry John Flower to justice and meets Rose Marie in a mountain saloon, where love blossoms. Unaware of Bruce's mission, Rose Marie's love for the sergeant is simultaneously endangering her own brother.
