The Pickles family of RUGRATS decides to take a jungle cruise vacation that ends up in disaster. Shipwrecked on a seemingly deserted island, the babies are separated from their parents and must fend for themselves under the leadership of Tommy Pickles (the voice of E.G. Daily). Unbeknownst to Tommy, his idol--naturalist and television explorer Sir Nigel Thornberry (Tim Curry)--is also on the island with his family to film a documentary on the rarely seen white leopard, Siri (rocker Chrissie Hynde). Lost in the jungle, the young RUGRATS kids meet the Thornberry daughters, Debbie (Danielle Harris) and Eliza (Lacey Chabert), whose magical ability to talk to animals makes it possible to converse with Spike (Bruce Willis), the Pickles family dog. But Spike has lost his sense of smell, thanks to jungle allergies, and isn't much help in finding their way--he bumbles along, cracking crude jokes with the help of the film's special interactive scratch-and-sniff "Odorama" feature. Hysterical but witless, Spike is no match for the leopard Siri, and soon everyone is in danger of becoming her next meal as they race around the jungle in search of their parents. Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh composed the film's original score, which includes the duet "Big Bad Cat," sung by Hynde and Willis. [More]

What Rugrats Go Wild! lacks in visual splendor it makes up for in comedic spunk.

Stick a fork in the Rugrats movie franchise. It's done.

For those already familiar with these oddly lovable characters, this one comes out smelling like a rose.

Too mild, too crude by far.

Not surprisingly, the Thornberrys scenes are more fun than the Rugrats material, but the film turns into an enjoyable enough trip.

Even with Nickelodeon's cross-pollination efforts and the dazzling Oderama concept, the 12-year-old babies just aren't funny this time.

Mildly amusing, but compared to Pixar's splashy fish story, the rudimentary drawings and childish gags of Nickelodeon's latest feature look, in a word, cartoonish.

A rather aimless, soggy affair, without much energy or charm.

"Rugrats Go Wild!" combines two successful franchises with woefully tame results.

Though, at times, sweetly sincere, the movie doesn't pack the emotion impact nor the thematic message we're all coming to expect from "movie cartoons."

Rugrats Go Wild! but not quite wild enough. ... It needs more Rugrats and less Thornberrys.

Some might call Rugrats Go Wild a harmless time-killer. But it doesn't just kill time, it tortures and murders it.
