Resurrecting the nunsploitation genre of the 1970s, this high-quality production is a hugely erotic criticism of religion that is far more fun than that statement would suggest. It's set in an 18th century convent, where the nuns are suffering from a mysterious illness that leads them to commit acts of horrific perversity to themselves and others. Lesbian sex, orgies, masturbation, and torture, their confessions reveal all, and the lovely, faithful Sister Mary is assigned to get to the bottom of this madness. She's soon caught the bug as well, and is plagued by visions of the "Death Nun" and Mary Magdalene. The story soon takes a backseat to the steamy nun-on-nun action, with well-lit, beautiful sets and creepy religious imagery to heighten the mood, while the girls strap each other to crucifixes, get molested by the village boys, and become intimate with priests.
