Martin Short Signs on to be "Santa Clause" Villain
by Scott Weinberg | September 15, 2005
Discuss Article
According to Variety, the versatile funnyman Martin Short has been tapped to portray the inevitably silly villain Jack Frost in "The Santa Clause 3," which will star Tim Allen and hit theaters in late 2006.

"Short will get a seven-figure deal to play Jack Frost, who tries to take over Christmas from Santa Claus. Tim Allen returns as Santa, aka Scott Calvin, who struggles to keep his new family happy while battling Frost. Michael Lembeck, who directed the second "Santa Clause" film, returns to helm the third installment.

Second City TV and SNL vet Short has been mostly absent from the bigscreen in recent years but has been busy in television. His "Jiminy Glick" yakker spawned a feature film, and he's had notable guest spots on "Law & Order: SVU" and "Arrested Development.""

Is there really a demand for Santa Clause 3? Who greenlights this stuff?

Until there is no need for a Christmas there will always be a need for Santa Clause sequels.

K, I loved the first Santa Clause movie back a billion years ago when it was made.. and I never saw the second Santa Clause movie because I thought it would ruin Christmas forever... so now making a third Santa Clause is like adding insult to injury. And having Martin Short in it is like poking a needle through my eye.
