Jigsaw Meets New Victims in "Saw IV"
by Fred Topel | July 01, 2007
Discuss Article
The creepiest moments of "Saw" films are when Jigsaw explains his diabolical tasks to his victims. Yeah, seeing people getting ripped apart is cringe-inducing, but we want to see some more of that banter. Actor Tobin Bell promises more verbal sparring with the new victims in "Saw IV."

"There's a guy in this film that we've never met before, who I can only describe him as being disenfranchised," said Bell. "Jigsaw comes into contact with this guy and they're like total opposites in certain ways. I view Jigsaw as someone who is basically living on a frontier in some ways. Imagine those guys on the moon. Many people talk a good game about the things that they care about in this world, but they do nothing about it. He, right or wrong, steps forward, does what he does. So this guy he runs into in this film, or their paths cross, this guy is one of the lost of the world."

Jigsaw has previously spoken to doctors and cops. The lesser characters only get to hear him on tape. This may be the first time Jigsaw has faced an intellectual lesser. "As I think about it now, although Jigsaw is extremely well educated, he's a philosopher, a mechanical engineer, he had everything to live for in his previous career, this other guy had never had anything. There's an interesting dialogue between the two of them. Anyway, you get to meet this guy in the film. I think it's a very interesting juxtaposition."

As an actor, Bell appreciates the rhythm of his "Saw" dialogues, including their use of silence. The described scene applies those concepts too. "It's in the scene where he talks to this guy who's disenfranchised, totally disenfranchised. It's interesting to have two people that come from totally different worlds, totally different training having this conversation, this dialogue. To be honest, I'm doing most of the talking in this dialogue."

"Saw IV" is released October 26.

HOW. THE. HELL. IS. JIGSAW. TALKING. TO. ANYONE? Sorry for all the caps, guys. But isn't Jigsaw dead?...

I can hear the suits talking:

Guy 1: "Look guys, don't worry about."
Guy 2: "Don't worry about it? But-"
Guy 3: "No. no. I agree. By the time this one comes out-"
Guy 1&2 in unison:"-no one will remember how the last film ended."

I agree with you Matanuki, this is rediculous now.
This is what i was expecting in this sequel, somehow he still managed to survive his neck getting hacked into with a saw, right. LAME.
Yeah, i might be pre-judging this flick, but come on, is he a zombie now? Dang people have to milk a franchise as much as they can don't they. Saw 1: Good, Saw 2: meh, Saw 3: not fitting end to the series, shoulda dropped it there though.

How was Saw III a fitting end to the series the way it ended? Sure, Jigsaw was "killed", but...the plot was unresolved.

Saw IV is probably the 'Hannibal Rising' of this series. I admit, I have not seen any of the Saw titles, I suppose I'll plan to give the first one a shot.

Why does everyone hate Hannibal Rising? And I really liked the first Saw, hated the second one, and thought the third was halfway decent. The major problems with the third was the bad acting by major players, the solving of dangling plotlines by just killing characters randomly (like the judge), and a character turn by the major protagonist at the end of the film that made absolutly no sense.
And as far as Jigsaw being in the fourth movie, perhaps it is all flashbacks. Tobin Bell is a good actor, but if the franchise would get other good actors then it would be much better. Anyway, everyone on here always goes "oh wow more saw movies, blah blah, whine whine." I never understood ANYONE complaining about any fracnhise they don't like coming out with more movies. Just don't watch them. For example I have no interest in something like Shrek, therefore I won't watch any sequels, but if someone else wants to then why in the world would I bitch and complain about it to take that away from them? Makes no sense.

more...talking?? yeah, hey...thats GREAT! having more dialogue in this trilogy is like a porno actress saying "i can really act and i think the director Big E. Dong really lets me show that in my new movie". just shutup and do what the d3mn genre calls for, blood guts and b33bies. its a SIMPLE formula, NOBODY gives a crap about talking about what you're going to do. you're not a frikkin James Bond villian dude...get over it. OVER complicating things and explaining EXACTLY what you're going to do...is a James Bond thing

product of you...you have bad taste bra. and you live in a zoo obviously, HIPPO-crite. the bad thing about the third was "bad acting"???...ooook so you DIDN'T watch either of the first two or...you really don't know what acting is. i laughed because the first Saw was SOOOO badly acted. this thing is overrated. straight to dvd is where it deserves to be. the problem is THIS crap movie makes other CRAP movies come out because they see how successful a mediocre below average horror movie can do decent #'s. thats why we complain...to save the world from sh3tty movies!!

said it before, i'll say it again. they can go a # of ways with the jiggie character to ward off his death. long lost twin brother is the most logical, and easiest to write. i'm sure they'll use the "duuuude, i was just kiddin'! i've been hangin with Barry Bonds and Stallone...i use roids now...i feel GOOOOD!" plotline and everything will be peachy. honestly people, does it REALLY matter?

The first Saw was good. Agreed on the 2nd, and I never even bothered with the 3rd.

This sounds intriguing enough to mildly pique my interest. I enjoyed the first Saw for the novel genre experiment it is, but I passed on the last two because I'm in no hurry to see the same trick again. A couple of detailed synopses were more than enough to satisfy my curiosity about what transpired in the existing sequels. I suspect the same will apply to the next one.

Some of you guys are ridiculous.

Jigsaw got a small little slash to the throat in the end.

That doesn't mean he is dead.

Common sense that he's back, and the directors and actors have been saying for a while that he's back. And everywhere, he's listed as a star for the fourth movie.

Get over it, he's not dead.

Gimy, everything you said is stupid. I was just mentioning the acting was bad in the third one, it doesn't mean I thought the other two were stellar. You aren't saving anyone by whining about a new movie coming out, because there are people that actually want to see it believe it or not. You can bitch and moan all you want but it is pointless.

Jigsaw is dead! But, he was clever enough to leave tapes behind (the one he poured wax on for instance). Don't get all bent out of shape about the movie....I think it's going to be amazing. They promise a big twist, which makes me even more excited about it. So, yeah, that's all I have to say about that.
