Consensus: Those that haven't tired from Farrelly brothers' brand of comedy may still find some laughs here. Otherwise, the slow pacing and unimaginative shock gags will start to wear on the viewer.

The result is another crude comedy that finds laughs in a series of outrageous situations. Working from a script by first-timers Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow, the film tells the confused story of orphan Gilly Noble (Chris Klein), who is employed at an animal shelter in Shelbyville, Indiana. When he lands in the barber's chair of the beautiful Jo Wingfield (Heather Graham), he's convinced he's found the woman of his dreams. A passionate, steamy romance develops, but when Gilly finds out that he and Jo are actually offspring from the same parents, Valdine (Sally Field) and Walter Wingfield (Richard Jenkins), he becomes a social outcast. Jo flees to Beaver, Oregon, to reunite with her former fiancé, the wealthy but conniving Jack Mitchelson (Eddie Cibrian), but when Gilly learns that he isn't Jo's brother after all, he must track her down to win back her affections. Unfortunately, Valdine wants Jack's money, so she will do whatever it takes to keep the truth from coming out. Featuring likeable performances by both Klein and Graham, Rogers's debut is a raucous comedy with a solid supporting cast. [More]

Not an ounce of energy or compassion to be found anywhere.

Boring, distasteful and predictable with brief flashes of wit that don't occur frequently enough to make the wait between chuckles worthwhile.

If you like your comedy crude and your romance sappy-sweet, this is some good fast-food movie goin'.

Say It Isn’t So attempts a copycat offensive in distractingly hurky-jerky style; the script moves in fits and starts and the cutting doesn’t smooth things out a bit.

Throw in bland performances by Klein and Graham -- and Field's irritatingly over-the-top turn -- and you've got a formula for disaster.

A horrifyingly moronic comedy that is boring rather than outrageous.

These aren't really jokes in the sense that something funny is happening. You're mostly expected to laugh at the idea that there are people who aren't laughing, which is just shallow and incredibly easy.

The movie doesn't understand that embarrassment comes in a sudden painful flush of realization; drag it out, and it's not embarrassment anymore, but public humiliation, which is a different condition, and not funny.

There's no getting around the fact that far from seeming a labor of love, Say It Isn't So seems merely labored.

The jokes are sparsely sown and what happens between them is duller than C-SPAN during a filibuster.

Rogers's film is vigorously tasteless, crammed with gags about cripples, nipples and getting your arm stuck up a cow's backside.

Although there are a few good laughs in it, most of the film stays at the crudely unfunny level.

The jokes about dead animals, gunk in the hair, incest and all other taboos are flatter than the road kill Gilly finds himself picking up for a living.
