SCHOOL OF ROCK is a hilarious romp that parents will enjoy as much as their children. Jack Black stars as Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star who doesn't seem to be rocking much of anything these days. Kicked out of the band that he started and about to be kicked out of his apartment, Dewey pretends that he's his roommate Ned Schneebly (Mike White) in order to take a job as a substitute teacher. Arriving at an ultra conservative--and ultra expensive--prep school, Dewey manages to fool the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). Soon, he finds himself in a classroom with a bunch of fifth graders. Obviously, Dewey has no intentions of teaching these kids anything, but when he discovers that a handful of them are talented musicians, a light bulb goes off. Determined to enter the local battle of the bands and win $25,000, Dewey embarks on his greatest mission of all: Teaching these kids how to rock! Director Richard Linklater (DAZED AND CONFUSED, WAKING LIFE) delivers his most universally appealing film with SCHOOL OF ROCK. Written specifically for Black by screenwriter/actor White, this outrageously entertaining crowd-pleaser elevates Black to superstar status. [More]

Reviews for School of Rock
The bus to the School of Rock runs on one source of fuel, and that is Jack Black.
...no pace, no backbeat, just Black hamming it up so manically that he makes Little Richard seem like Mel Torme.
...a lighthearted fantasy that rocks, dude, with Jack Black as the pied piper of rock purity...
Escola de Rock já havia acabado há mais de meia hora quando percebi que continuava a sorrir - um sinal inequívoco de que o filme funcionara maravilhosamente bem.
Absolutely the funniest movie to hit theater screens in a good long while.
The School of Rock's Dewey Finn ... is the role Jack Black was born to play. His volume goes up to 11 -- and Black never turns it down.
... Black personally lends enough energy to the film to power a third-world country for a few years, and that's just with his eyebrows.
A breath of fresh air for Hollywood comedies, providing proof that intelligent comedies can still make money if they’re made of the right ingredients.
The movie is predictable and formulaic, but it counters with a disarming charm, it doesn't condescend and Black's performance is a jewel of youthful enthusiasm.
With its energetic, highly contagious and zany fun pitched at a thousand decibels, School of Rock combines hefty laughs with a truly sweet heart.
...With School of Rock director Richard Linklater delivers a warm-hearted and irresistible valentine to the music he loves.
It sounds like the sort of sanitized product that might star Eddie Murphy (Dokken Day Care?), yet what gives the movie any semblance of an edge is Jack Black.
A welcome reminder that studio comedies need not be shoddy, dumbed down, vulgar, and impersonal.
