Eccentric author Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp) finds his life spiraling out of control. With a drinking problem and a cigarette habit he can't shake, Mort can barely function when his wife (Maria Bello) leaves him and he abandons his work. In the midst of his anguish, a deranged man, John Shooter, (John Turturro) appears at Mort's New York cabin, claiming that Mort has plagiarized one of his stories. As his wife pushes Mort to finalize their divorce and Shooter systematically destroys his life, he struggles to restore order to an increasingly insane situation. Playing off of Turturro who is superb as the crazed, Gothic Shooter, Johnny Depp shines in his role with a quirky, brilliant performance. The mannerisms he brings to Mort, such as a problem with a clenched jaw, makes the author's descent into madness compelling and believable. With an emphasis on character study over special effects, the chills provided by this film rely on skilled acting and evoke thrillers of earlier generations like PSYCHO and STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, including a shocking twist of an ending. A solid-but-imperfect thriller.

Torna-se não apenas um suspense eficiente, mas também um curioso estudo de personagens.

Good thing the people serving this utilitarian story have the wit to dress it up a little and make it dance.

A mystery whose secret is obvious from the beginning and a thriller without any genuine thrills.

Mr. Depp demonstrates once again that he never disappoints as an actor, even in something as fraudulent as Secret Window.

Writer-Director Koepp well understood the best qualities of the story and held back the almost demeaning payoff as long as he could.

Bottom line, it's extremely predictable, even if you didn't read the original novella.

Strange and a little awkward, "Secret Window" nonetheless is worth a look.

A pastiche of past thrillers, recycling its elements from The Shining, Misery, The Dark Half and just about every other King project this side of The Mangler.

The story is so basic that it makes a fine template for an exercise in style, and Koepp layers on the details with great relish.

Secret Window is filled with so many red herrings, one could have a veritable feast if one were to filet them, cream them, and serve them with a box of crackers.

By the end of Secret Window, I was too busy being amused by the film's undeniable sense of thrills to care that much about the flaws.
