Hit-and-miss comedy horror that is often extremely funny, thanks to a splattering of decent gags and an impressive comedy turn from Jennifer Tilly.

Apparently Chucky and his equally murderous bride, Tiffany (voiced by Jennifer Tilly), had a child, which has grown up in a cage as part of a heavy-metal ventriloquist act in England. Eventually it (one never learns its exact gender) escapes to Los Angeles to revive mom and pop, whose doll corpses are being used for a movie based on their previous killing spree. Jennifer Tilly shows up as herself, and she's great--hamming it up as a floozy actress so desperate for the part in rapper Redman's latest film that she lures him home for a casting couch tryst, with hilarious (and fatal) results. Meanwhile, the child of Chucky is horrified by the violent murders its parents are so fond of committing and, with a little help from a 12-step book, tries to help them kick the homicide habit. Of course it's hard when there are so many deserving targets around, including John Waters as a scuzzy paparazzi. In sum, this is one crazy sequel; it's got a refreshing lack of morals, a light heart, and a clever script with a lot of great insider jokes for buffs. The gore is extreme though, including eviscerations, beheadings, melting flesh, and other raunchy business that makes its R rating well-earned (no true Chucky fan would have it any other way, of course). Rappers Eminem and Big Pun contributed tracks to the score. [More]

Reviews for Seed of Chucky
No one rents or buys a movie like this for its Oscar moments. This is a fun romp of a flick that's going to be fun with a group of friends and a keg.
The gore -- severed limbs, heads, testicles; you know, the usual stuff -- is kept in humorous overabundance.
Recommended for the toothsome Jennifer Tilly, the manic Billy Boyd, some inventive deaths, some inspired gore, and one frankly hilarious scene involving Tilly and a decapitated corpse.
Though saddled with as egregiously silly a feel as its immediate predecessor, Seed of Chucky nevertheless comes off as a somewhat superior sequel...
It's never scaryand doesn't try to bebut it sure does have a pitch-black, smile-inducing charm.
With Seed of Chucky, director Mancini distances himself from the previous Chucky films and admits his true love for camp.
...don't take this one too seriously and you might just enjoy most of it.
Seed of Chucky is still a great follow-up to Bride and a very cool horror/comedy on it's own.
The raunchier and more vulgar it is, the better. And for the most part, the approach succeeds.
Installment No. 5 in the once-moribund Child's Play franchise isn't quite the roller coaster from hell that the series' last outing was, but it’s surely the most engaging, and, dare I say, emotionally honest.
