Ejiofor Talks "Children" -- and "Serenity" Sequel (kinda)
Don't get too excited, Firefly-fans. IGN FilmForce did have a solid interview with excellent actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, and they DID ask the guy if he knew anything about a Serenity sequel ... but there's not too much to report, it seems. Darnit.
From IGN FF: "At a recent interview for the new film Kinky Boots by director Julian Jarrold, IGN FilmForce had the chance to ask the actor about his work on Alfonso Cuaron's (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) upcoming film, Children of Men.

Ejiofor explains the plot: "It's sort of set a short time in the future with general sort of political societal collapses as well as these issues of fertility that have created a very enraged and complex society, and it's based on the Peter James novel. Alfonso, I think, has adapted and written a terrific script, and a really good cast of people have come together to shoot the film.
...
Serenity's future is indefinite at this point. The box office take was less than stellar, but continuously strong DVD sales have left the door open. "I don't know what that is or that situation... Joss is such an amazing guy, and I'd be intrigued to see where he would sort of take that and take the story and so on, and whether it would be sequels or prequels. I'm sure he could do absolutely anything."

on Apr 17 2006 04:30 AM I had never heard of firefly until a few months ago when i asked someone in the video store what serenity was about. The clerk told me it was based on a canceled tv show.I watched serenity and really liked it,and thats kindeve odd cause im not really big on all the sci fi stuff. It was maybe a month after i saw the movie that i seen firefly on dvd at my local samgoody,i bought the show and liked it as much if not more than serenity.I hope they bring it back in some form or another, even if its only a tv movie. ![]() on Apr 17 2006 08:36 AM In reply to this comment (#833824) now that you've shown your superior nerdship, go spank it to some furry porn before flipping burger this afternoon. i still have yet to see both and i blame the studio for the evidently misconceived and misleading trailer that totally didn't spark my interest in serenity at the theater. on Apr 17 2006 09:29 AM so, there's nothing on this article about a sequel to firefly/serenity? this is more like AICN stuff IMO (Reply to this) |

on Apr 17 2006 09:30 AM Serenity was probably one of the best movies last year (or rather for a good long while) and is definitely one of the freshest ideas since the original Star Wars in 1977. I blame FOX for the poor outing the first time along with their enlightened intelligence for cancelling a non-reality TV show. (Reply to this) |

on Apr 17 2006 01:23 PM In reply to this comment (#833828) Far From, Actually.... You must have read the Entertainment Weekly interview. Joss never said it was over: the dunderhead known as the interviewer implied that it was over. Joss later made fun of the whole incident (I'm not kidding: it was f**kin' hilarious, what he said), and stated that he never said it was over. He simply stated "If I get another chance to work on it, I'd love to." See? What kinda idiot would imply that from THAT?! Sometimes.... For those who really want the sequel (like me): SciFi Channel has shown an interest in making a sequel. Now, normally, this would be considered kinda bad, taking into mind SciFi's movies and a lot of their programming. But, seeing the effects they can afford with "Battlestar Galactica", I have total and utter faith in them. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Apr 17 2006 03:44 PM In reply to this comment (#833829) That's exactly where I read that. It kinda made sense tho, cuz he has so much on his plate. I wonder if he would have the time to direct it, let alone write and produce. (Reply to this) |

on Apr 18 2006 12:12 AM Yup...it really is ashame because this "verse" should be huge. This is EXACTLY what happens when you get bad marketing. The word of mouth is slowly spreading, hence the good DVD sales, but it was just advertised in such a horrible way...it's all Universal's fault; they really need to make a sequel just as an apology and acknowledge they screwed up. If they can go and make a Big Momma's House 2, or a Scary Movie 4, they HAVE to make a Serenity 2 (at least), if not it would be beyond words, and prove just how far idiocy has risen in Hollywood. on Apr 18 2006 06:20 AM In reply to this comment (#833831) The difference with Scary Movie 4 and Big Momma's House 2 is that all 4 Scary Movies and both Big Mommas all made a profit. I am dissappointed, not in Universal, but in us as viewers. I know that I personally took 3 people to the movie after introducing them to the series. I know that 1 of my friends took someone to another showing. It had plenty of publicity leading up to it. Serenity was in all the magazines, talking about the sucess of the screenings. It is FOX's mistake to have cancelled the show in the first place though. I hope they do make a sequel. If not, I hope Joss goes forward with his comic book idea. I loved the 3 part mini series before the movie. (Reply to this) |
