RT Review Revue: Sex, Strangers, and Sequels
Manhattan’s Upper East Side or a terrifying night in the wilderness?

In a weekend of near-polar opposite wide releases, we discuss the swanky handbag fun of Sex and the City: The Movie and the canvas bag-faced thriller The Strangers. We'll answer a viewer question and take a look at some artwork from the forums that captures (perhaps inadvertently) the spirit of both films.

Four years after its television finale, do critics think that Carrie and co. remain fabulous in a Badgley Mischka original and a pair of impossibly vintage Jimmy Choo's? What does "Based on True Events" really mean when it comes to this week's scarefest? In a summer filled with sequels, remakes, and adaptations, are there any more in the works? Which ones would we hypothetically camp out for?

In next week's more family-friendly weekend, we'll look at Adam Sandler's return to the big screen in You Don't Mess with the Zohan and CGI animals in the dojo in Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda.

Before heading out to your local Multicinedomeplexicon 16, check out this week's show to see if you should gather the girls (and boys) for some Cosmos and Cavalli on the Upper East Side or don your Sunday best lumberjack flannel before some indoor/outdoor bowel-moving fun courtesy of an unexpected home invasion!

Thanks a bunch for the mail response guys!!!

Dave, buddy...do you really watch "Sex & The City"? You seemed really serious with your critique. Either way, I still love you.

"Liv Tyler Animal Cracker scene in Armageddon holla at yo boy" LOL.

@707PG13,
I surprisingly am not a big SATC fan despite my love for teen dramedies and whatnot.

However, I have seen an episode or two (though one of them I watched while in school for a class), but I have a bunch of friends who are fanatics of the show so I end up hearing a lot about it.

You know what I'm talking about with that animal cracker scene... :)

Jen Yamato is probably dead-on with what she says about Sex and the S*itty.

a TRON sequel would be cool. Especially if they did it in 3-D.

Oh totally! teen dramadies rule! Especially the good ones like "The Wonder Years". But I should've known being a film critic, it's your job every once in a while to review a movie your not particularly juiced about.

My god...Jen actually kept her promise about the "no cleavage" thing.

DAMN IT!!!

P.S.: The Strangers totally sucked.

The Strangers is a great movie and I'll make sure to stop listening to anyone who says otherwise.

Looks like you guys hit the target again this week. Except... I've been trying to think of a clever double entendre, but forget it: Jen should've kept that dress from last week.

Disturbia was Rear Window, only stupid.

Buckaroo Banzai vs. The World Crime League, anyone? Sons of El Topo, anyone? Evil Dead 4, anyone? Holy hell, that isn't the real Bruce Campbell, is it?

Wait! You should have gotten Foot Fist Way!

I know this is your site and all, but why do I have to see the same three faces every time I load RT? It's starting to seem a tad self-serving. I'm just sayin' . . .

Er...

Maybe they should move the faces around on the 3 bodies. Cut and paste.

Excellent show again. The extra length is definitely paying off.

...

ANYways, I agree about Tron! I would love to see a not-videogame sequel. Honestly though, they would probably go CGI crazy and ruin it.

Here's a question for you guys... what TV shows do you think would make good movies? Lost? Anyone?

@Sm1ley

I luv LOST, but honestly, If there were a movie about it, it'd only be for a specific audience. With a show like that, the audience would have to be in on all the seasons thus far.

Me, I'd like to see a theatrical "Battlestar Galactica" movie.

How about Hollywood leaving tv shows alone and just doing something ORIGINAL? Especially since 90% of the small-box stuff they adapt for the big screen tends to be horrendous. That might be too mind-blowing a concept for anyone in LA-LA Land to consider.

And Bruce C., be sure to keep your ears covered...because while I always love reading your postings, I intend to scream from the highest mountaintops how much A$$ The Strangers blew. ;-P

Woops, sorry for the double post.

As for likening SATC to a Star Trek movie I'm not so sure, maybe more like a Pokemon movie.

Jen, you are spot on with your comments.

Yes, I am totally dead on about SATC - having seen the movie and groaned inwardly for much of the 2 1/2 hour runtime. It pains me to think of how many women out there drink this stuff in - insipid, materialistic, desperate fluff.

The show wasn't bad; pretty good at times. But the movie, while harmless enough to watch, isn't anywhere near as good as the best of the series. If I was a dude having to go see it, I'd cry.
