There, he meets Kerry O'Shea,... This film examines the complexities and tragedies of the 1921 Irish Rebellion against British imperialism. Sean Lenihan teaches medicine at a Dublin university. There, he meets Kerry O'Shea, an American veteran of the First World War and son of Lenihan's ally in the patriotic Irish "underground." O'Shea's father died in the line of fire, but Lenihan wants to resume the revolt. The leader of the Irish independent movement has, to the chagrin of Lenihan and O'Shea, started to negotiate peace with the English. However, Lenihan and other Irish rebels want a lasting accord, one more on their terms than on those of the English.
