Fox Plans to Deliver Some Multiplex "Payne"
You'll soon get to see a movie version of the popular video game "Max Payne," if Fox has anything to say about it. The Hollywood Reporter informs us that the studio has purchased the rights to the noirish action game, and the plot goes a little something like this: "Max Payne tells the story of a New York cop whose wife and baby are killed by thugs high on a designer drug called Valkyr...
... Devastated, the cop joins the Drug Enforcement Agency and goes undercover with the mob to find the source of the drug. Framed for the murder of his partner and hunted down by both the mob and the police, he is forced to wage a one-man war against crime."
No word yet on who's writing, directing, or starring -- but if a movie can be described as "Sin City Meets Dirty Harry," well, that's a movie we'll want to check out.

Jofo1185 writes: on Jun 28 2005 09:24 AM Anderson does his own stuff so I doubt he wouldn't ever do a game to movie. I have always enjoyed Max Payne, but yeah it will be good depending on the actors and director (Reply to this) |

highscorekid writes: on Jun 28 2005 12:08 PM Jofo1185, you're thinking of Paul Thomas Anderson, the dude who made Magnolia. Paul W.S. Anderson is that piece of shit who murders video game franchises on film. He and Uwe Boll should be thrown onto a rocket and launched into the center of the sun. Anyway, about Max Payne being made into a movie. One of the problems with making video games into movies is that the plots for many games are generic to begin with. The family of a rough and tough cop is killed, he's framed for murder, yadda yadda yadda. It's all been done before. The only thing that will seperate a Max Payne movie from any other action film of the same plotline is some cool bullet-time sequences. Hopefully whoever makes this movie doesn't abuse the bullet-time technology like Boll did in House of the Dead... goddamn, that movie was utter dung... (Reply to this) |

It's still one guy's opinion though... Lion's out. (Reply to this) |

MasterModeler writes: on Jun 29 2005 02:12 AM Not a bad idea... This has some potential. They HAVE to cast it right. I could see Christian Bale nail this tortured and vengeful character. There is alot of dark shit and seedy characters in the Max Payne world that could translate well on to film... Im keeping my fingers crossed. (Reply to this) |

lancerbird13 writes: on Jun 29 2005 08:28 AM I agree that Tom Jane would "look" great, but I think he wouldn't be cast in the role due to the similarity between Max Payne and Frank Castle's story(the family being killed by thugs, plotting revenge, the fancy gun scenes). But I'll admit, he does look right for the role. (Reply to this) |

EIAC writes: on Jul 02 2005 02:52 PM In reply to this comment (#823715) They need to get someone looking to make a MOVIE, instead of someone looking to cash out on the Max Payne franchise. If they get a crew thats interested in the noir story then they can defenitly pull this off. If they just try to cash out on Max Payne then its going to be nothing but a B level action movie with a big star that looks good blowing something up. (Reply to this) |
