Trailer Bulletin: Lady in the Water
by Scott Weinberg | May 10, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
The director of "The Sixth Sense," "Unbreakable," "Signs," and (yes) "The Village" is back, and this time he's got a soaking-wet mystery woman who haunts Paul Giamatti. The movie is "Lady in the Water" and here's the all-new trailer.

"A modest building manager named Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti) rescues a mysterious young woman (Bryce Dallas Howard) from danger and discovers she is actually a narf, a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the treacherous journey from our world back to hers. Cleveland and his fellow tenants start to realize that they are also characters in this bedtime story. As Cleveland falls deeper and deeper in love with the woman, he works together with the tenants to protect his new fragile friend from the deadly creatures that reside in this fable and are determined to prevent her from returning home."

WB's "Lady in the Water" opens on July 21st.

Not a fantastic trailer ....

I'm still going to see this movie as soon as it comes out because I'm dying to find out what the Shyamalanatwist is at the end, but this trailer didn't leave chills down my spine like 6th Sense or The Village did.

Well, the 6th Sense is hard to beat, as far as trailers go, what with the kid at the end who says, "She's standing outside my window." And The Village was great because there was that split second where you got to see the monster/creature, and that thing looked scary.

I guess I need to wait until this trailer comes out in high-definition on Apple’s website, maybe there’s something I’m not seeing.

I doubt it. I think the only thing chilling about that trailer is the "A Bedtime Story by M. Night Syamalan". That's creepy. But the movie itself doesn't look creepy like the 6th Sense, more just weird like Unbreakable. Which is cool with me.

Another comment ...

I'm kind of surprised to see Bryce Dallas Howard in this movie, since she was in The Village. I guess M. Night Shyamalan re-uses his actors, like Bruce Willis. Tim Burton, on the other hand, has an almost identical cast in several of his movies. In an interview, Jonny Depp expressed his deep loyalty and admiration for Tim Burton. He revered him as an artist and said he would basically do anything that man tells him to do. I imagine that several actors could say the same thing about their favorite director or producer. I wonder if Bryce Dallas Howard and Bruce Willis would say that about M. Night Shyamalan.

Bryce Dallas Howard is a great actress, and it seems as though she has some great parts, like Village, this movie, and the next Spider-Man. Ron Howard said in an interview that when she went to audition, she wouldn't let him help her. She wouldn't even rehearse with him. She did it all on her own. She showed up as herself and not as "Ron Howard's daughter." I admire that about her.

This one is supposed to be twistless. Just a run of the mill story where it tells itself and doesn't rely on some crazy twist. I'm thinking this movie is more in line with his first movie Wide Awake then his supernatural thrillers (drama for The Village). Expect a quality movie here and not something that you have to keep looking for clues for the secret twist.

I love The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs. The Village was really dissapointing though. I can hardly wait for this, I think it could be really good and it's probably for the better if it doesn't have a twist.

Looks exciting!

Oh yeah, give Shyamalan some slack. Directors make good movies and bad ones, especially the good directors.

Oh yeah, I can't wait for this one to come out!! I'm so glad that Paul Giamatti is playing the lead role in this one. Definitely one of my favorite actors. It's also great that Shyamalan keeps bringing on talented actors to play in his movies. The Village has such an amazing cast!

I think it looks pretty good. A bit of a wierder plot than I expected, but good. And the wolf in the camera flash, or whatever it was, that was pretty creepy.
