Celeste Talbert (Sally Field) is the neurotic diva of "The Sun Also Sets," but her popularity with the show's fans does not extend to her relationships with her envious co-stars. Sultry Montana Moorehead (Cathy Moriarty) has set her eyes on the soap's top spot, and she even offers to sleep with the show's nervous young producer if he'll have Celeste written off the program. In a moment of inspiration, the horny executive decides to bring Talbert's hated ex-lover, Jeffrey Anderson (Kevin Kline), back onto the series, with the hope of driving the fragile star to an early retirement. The fact that Anderson's character was decapitated in an earlier episode is seen as a difficult, but not insurmountable, obstacle. [More]

Reviews for Soapdish
... this often-hilarious spoof on daytime soap operas achieves much success borrowing from the 'divorce-remarriage' variation of the screwball comedy.
A riotous spoof of TV soap operas and the people who create them, the clever foundation being that the backstage lives of the principles are more sudsy than the TV program they work on.
Lines like this are amusing, but they pop instantly, like soap bubbles.
As the private, public and TV lives of these characters begin to unravel and tangle, on the small screen and off, it turns into a genuinely funny comedy.
The plot is contrived and this is hardly a believable picture of how a soap opera is made, but at least the gags are mostly funny.
Soapdish is pure joy, a lemon-fresh spoof of daytime drama that does the dishing and may even soften your hands.
